par for the course. These clowns are beyond incompetent.

As Triplette presided over the overtime coin flip, he went over the rules of overtime for the teams’ captains, and the millions of people watching at home. But after correctly noting that fourth-quarter timing was in effect and all replay reviews would be called down from upstairs rather than allowing coaches to challenge, Triplette wrongly said that both teams were guaranteed a possession.

“Each team must have an opportunity to possess the football and score,” Triplette said.

This is unfortunately the 4th time today I've had to comment that the NFL NEEDS to make refs Full Time employees.

:wallbash:

More than that, the NFL needs to stop changing rules every season. The officials were fine twenty years ago, before the league started !@#$ing with the game to make it "better". Guess what, Tags? You change the rules every year, OF COURSE the refs aren't going to know them.

Triplette's infamous for one boneheaded call, but I can't remember which. Was he the one responsible for the Pittsburgh-Detroit coin toss fiasco? Or was he the "Just give it to them" !@#$? Can't recall...

I thought it was a funny moment, but probably just a brain fart rather than incompetence.

Agreed. The guy is a decent referee. He misspoke and he corrected his error to the crowd off-camera. Simple as that.
