Joe Paterno was fired because he did not go to the police after an assistant told him what he saw in the shower. Should ESPN be held to the same standard? KD in CA
It's not really the same situation. ESPN doesn't run the Syracuse basketball program. It seems the more egregious violation here was the Syracuse detective who buried the complaint (assuming that's what really happened).
BuffaloBill
Perhaps additional facts will come out but for now the situations are nothing alike. ESPN did not knowingly cover up or ignore abuse. They had allegations of abuse that the police had already been made aware of. It's not their job to investigate the allegations. With that said, I am not defending or advocating that individuals made aware of potential abuse should do anything other than presss the authorities to look into them. The children pay the price in these situations and they must be protected.
