Homey D. Clown Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Other than giving the fans a head on a platter, what would firing Edwards NOW accomplish? GO BILLS!!! to the contrary, what could this team possibly GAIN from not firing him?
NewEra Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011
Fire Edwards and do what, make Wannstedt the DC? How idiotic would that be?
you think it's better to keep him and make stache the dc next year? It's probably gonna happen. Fire the bum now and let the other bum show us how worthless he is now, so we don't have to go through this again next year
spartacus Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 The Gailey/Edwards relationship is no different than what occurs on most NFL coaching staffs. The HC until he is backed against the wall by the GM or owner, will be fiercely loyal to his assistants....NO MATTER HOW BADLY THEY SUCK! Marv did the same thing with Walt Corey
Sisyphean Bills Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Marv did the same thing with Walt Corey Edwards makes Corey look like Albert Einstein by comparison.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 But, as a coach I told always anyone that will listen, I'm a lot smarter Coach when I have better players . . . funny how that works. Not saying this is a star-studded unit but I'm in the apparent majority who believes that the coaching is worse than the players… that the defense is underperforming their talent. My question is, at what point do we hold Buddy Nix accountable for the lackluster talent he put on the team? His drafting has been suspect at best - guys like Spiller and Dareus may show potential but aren't making big plays in big games. Going into this year, this team had glaring holes -- and many of those were filled with retreads or inexperienced players who don't get the job done. We needed depth -- we knew this. Yet one look at our roster and you knew if a few injuries happened we would be toast. And here we are... Toast. Edwards has coached awful -- yes. But he's not the one who can't make a play in the ball, cover a wide receiver, or sack the QB. The subpar talent on this team is. Take a guy like GM Alex Spanos on San Diego. He's found some great talent along with AJ Smith. But San Diego is underperforming and he's likely to get fired for it. At some point, we to examine the job Nix has done. I sure hope the GM seat at One Bills Drive is getting warmer -- it should be. I think most of the people here agree that 3 complete seasons is a long enough and fair time period to evaluate Nix. Nix has done some good things and some not-so-good things. He gets a third year. As far as your Spanos discussion just to correct an error you made, Alex Spanos was never the Chargers GM. He bought the team in 1984 and… he's around 90 years old. His son Dean is the Chargers President. Dean's son John IS Director of College Scouting but is widely viewed as a nepotism hire and the Chargers have not drafted well in the recent years coinciding with John's involvement. But seeing as John is the owner's grandson, I don't see him getting "fired." Transferred (like Russ Brandon) maybe. Getting back to the point of the thread, this defense can't stop the run nor can they rush the passer. I can't always tell you why something isn't working but I can usually tell you when something isn't working. Edwards has done a lousy job and the defense's terrible performance has not cast Dave Wannstedt in a good light.

We have 3 legit NFL starters on the front 7---minus the hurt Williams makes 2.-Edwards is likely a bad coach. But do we really know that? Yes we probably have to get someone else in there(please not wanny--never been a fan of his). But I am not sure what Bill Parcells himself could do with that mess

8-8 Forever? Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I'm so sick and tired of his our D has been playing since the start of the season!! I don't understand why Chan hasn't fire Edwards yet. Once the season is over with, they better let him go!!! They played 4 very promising rookies on defense yesterday, and they played well. New center and shuffled O LIne. Let it go. If they still completely suck next year after an entire offseason and camp, then you start thinking about letting the whole staff go. They were never going to the playoffs this year. the first 7 games were a fluke driven by an insane number of takeaways and short fields.
thewildrabbit Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 At this point better to keep him n not win another game ............. Who do you replace him with, wannstache hasn't shown much as LB's coach, Perhaps the mangenius in the off season. Megamind and Mangenius....
The Dog Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 The Bill's give all opponents a chance at a career day. Equal Opportunity Defense, someone has to help pad the statistics.

Edwards has done a lousy job and the defense's terrible performance has not cast Dave Wannstedt in a good light. Agreed on all fronts. There are plenty of no-name defenses in the league, that are somehow managing to get the stop at need. I hear a lot about players being out of position, missed assignments - but even at their best, they have been poor. I can't help thinking either this reflects poor coaching and preparation, or else the players are being asked to perform assignments outside their abilities. Edwards may survive, sadly - he is the "coaches buddy". Chan couldn't fire him last year without looking bad, and I think all the injuries/lack of depth will sadly buy him another year. It is possible if we get rid of a couple "soft" assistant coaches, the defense may improve. I really hate to be saying this. I would like to BILLieve that sanity will prevail and Edwards will go.
KOKBILLS Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Edwards makes Corey look like Albert Einstein by comparison. This Defense had one of their better Games of the Season, and they still gave up 28 points along with a game winning 82 yard TD drive in the 4th Quarter... That should tell us all about the state of this Defense...Not the greatest talent in the league by a long-shot...But clearly the worst Coached Defense in the NFL by a country mile...
Homey D. Clown Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I think this franchise should fire George Edwards, and don't let the guy even take the field in the 2nd half. Send the rest of the team a strong message that losing is no longer tolerated, and if you can't do your job, you'll be sent packing in a way that the whole league will see. Nothing personal to him, I'm sure he is a wonderful guy, but to have as many new people on defense that he now has over last year's team, another year in the system, and a few worthless picks sent packing, he has somehow managed to have the squad performing worse than last year's group. WORSE.... all I can say is that it's really hard to outperform last year's garbage effort, but yet this squad has found a way. they are actually outdoing the fabled 2-14 teams of the mid 80's, something I thought a team could never do once they learned what not to do. So, I say fire him mid game, bench a few A-holes on both sides of the ball, and let the few high character guys on this team, and a few unproven rookies play out the season. Yes, it seems that Edwards is yet another head on a platter, but can anyone question the last one(Jauron and staff)? This one's an even bigger no brainer, he is simply not even capable of game planning a little bit. it's too late to start sucking for luck, so we're actually doing it for nothing at this point.
MacAddict104 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Someone needs to be a scapegoat for the huge collapse of this team. OBD has made some dumb decisions but they are aware of the ramifications of what this could do to tickets sales. Edwards will likely be gone - if he's not then there's a good chance Chan is leaving at the end of 2012. 3 years is more than enough time to turn around a program
Koufax Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 At this point better to keep him n not win another game I completely disagree with the lose out helps us mentality. This team needs to do everything it can to get the 6th win, then try for the 7th, 8th, etc. Build a winning culture and an improving culture. The 53 guys on the roster matter more than the 7 guys we add next June, and losing will hurt the development and confidence of the guys on this roster, and hurt the appeal we have to free agents. Right now I just want to beat Tennessee at home to get us to 6-6, so we can take on SD, Mia, Den, and NE one at a time. But I do agree with the OP that we should fire Edwards as soon as possible and move forward. I think now is the best time, but if Chan and Buddy think such a change is better suited to after the season, I can wait.
NastyNateSoldiers Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Other than giving the fans a head on a platter, what would firing Edwards NOW accomplish? GO BILLS!!! Lets face it Bills fans, the Stache will be our next DC. That also means we will have to transition to a true 4-3 Defense. That gives Dave a grace period to see who will fit into ours plans schematically for next season. It will also give the players a leg up on what to expect come next season. The sooner the better. What do we have to lose, this Defensive line does not even know how to execute stunts and our Blitz packages look like they were bought from those old tecmo bowl games. GEORGE EDWARDS IS A KMART COACH!!.

GEORGE EDWARDS IS A KMART COACH!!. That all may be true but 12 weeks into the season just isn't the time to install new systems on either side of the ball. There wouldn't be any time to prepare for your opponents on a week to week basis. They have a good idea now who fits into their schemes for next year anyway. I just think the drawbacks outweigh the benefits at this point in time. Now that I've said that, watch Chan fire Edwards tomorrow, name the Stache DC, and all remnants of the 34 fronts thrown out. GO BILLS!!!
John from Riverside Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 K9 But we are mostly playing 4-3 now anyway.....so having another DC step in that already is on the team and knows the players isn't that much of a adjustment.
