Exactly the point. No depth at all at the most important position, and yet he ranked it #4.

No depth at all in an already weakish O-line caused me to shoot the lynchpin to the top of the chart.

 

This is out of the 54 man roster.

 

I can see the argument to flip Freddy with Fitzy.

 

Everyone feel free to make your own top 10 list and I,d be surprised if you don't have half of the list on IR.

Yes, we get it, the Bills have lost a bunch of players, but that is a product of a poor overall roster not some random misforttune.

 

When you are playing from far behind your offensive players are liable to get beaten up. When teams get a big lead on you, they can run the ball down your throat which is hard on the health of your defense.

 

It doesn't pay to build your team on a 5 year plan any longer. The Bills have no sense of urgency organizationally.

 

If this team had gone out and actually added some good veterans to the defense then perhaps guys like Jackson, Wood and Stevie Johnson wouldn't have suffered the injuries they have. The whole season has been a frantic attempt by the offense to keep the team in games and that has taken it's toll.

Good point about the defense being so poor that it put the offense in a position that caused an increase chance of injury.

 

The point isn't that we've had a lot of injuries, the point is the injuries were to very key players.

If Reihnhert, Spiller, Harriston, Troop, and Scott were the ones on IR wouldn't be in the same FUBAR position.

btw I think its more like a 3 year plan and what is your alternative strategy?

This is an interesting thread... and so Sad but true. At some point the talent loss to IR outweighs anything one could "coach up" to get victories in the NFL.

Levitre was just awful. But just because he snapped the ball worse than any practice squad center in the league would have does not make Wood the most indispensible player on the roster. Urbik should perform better.

They did a good job of finding adequate talent off the scrap heap last season in guys like Chandler, Urbik, Rhinehart, Pears etc. and I think they got kinda' full of themselves. The reality is that when you are bad and have a lot of roster opportunities you are in a better position to find good players at the fringes of better teams' rosters.

 

But the core of the team has paid the price for the lack of an aggressive approach to stocking the rest of the roster.

Buddy said for the get go the depth would be a problem, you can not gut a team and have it totally restocked in two years. It is very hard to get veteran depth players to come and play for a team that is precieved to have to shot at winning . If anything it should be a little easier to recruit that type of player this offseason.

would like them to bring in josh johnson this offseason. Tb will not sign him and he is athletic with upside.

we've lost our best offensive skill player, best offensive lineman, best d-lineman, best LB, and best CB for the year.

 

This doesn't even account for the fact that we've lost other significant players for significant periods of time (Wilson, Lindell, Jones, Easley, Parrish, etc.).

Buddy was pretty arrogant about the roster, then backtracked about week 3 with their depth. It's not all Nix' fault, he's just playing with half a deck courtesy of ownership.

 

Now it seems Nix and Gailey are subtly noting the lack of depth and talent all over the field. As much as I feel sorry for them working without, they knew what they were getting in to when they accepted their jobs. That would be OK if Nix was better on draft day, but he refuses to make trades to add picks (hello depth) and his core rebuilding philosophy isn't one that can make up for blanks in free agency.
