you have a good point; I think Chan may have gotten a bit too enamored with his spread offense. You need the right horses to win that race and right now there are too many key players hurting or out, he needs to adapt to the players he has left and come up with a simple workable offense that can eat up some clock and keep our porous defense off the field.

He may (did) suck as a head coach, but I believe his average defensive ranking was usually around 10th, and in Miami his defense over the 6 years overall average ranking was around 6th for total yards.

He is no Wade Phillips, and he does not have Ryan family connections, but his defenses have been respectable. No one is asking for him to be HC, just turn a 31st ranked defense into something that resembles an NFL defense.

The goals you articulated in your bolded statement are more easily said than done. Currently, Gailey is being asked to design an offense for a quarterback who can't throw, an offensive line which can't block, and receivers who can't catch. I'm not sure what on earth he's supposed to do to overcome a challenge like that!

He is the HEADCOACH and yet on gameday he coaches as if he is offensive coordinator. Is he even aware of what is defense is trying to do? He seems totally focused on offense.

That is one of the best descriptions of him I've read and yet so obviously accurate

Since he is an offensive "coach" he should have a clue what a real defense looks like. He should have input and be concerned about what "his" defense can or can't do. As head coach he has the final say as to which direction the defense is going. That's the part I don't understand. The fact that he appears to be hands off and rely on his defensive coaches and coordinator and seems to be clueless about the defense. Again, as an offensive coordinator first, he should know a few things about defense.

The thing that worries me most...is his answer about any possible coaching changes in his Monday presser today. When asked about possible coaches being on the hot seat or of a possible defensive coordinator change he responded with an EMPHATIC "NO". That concerns me. Unless he knows something that us fans are not seeing on the field and knows that it's not the DC's fault for fielding out of position players, then I'm really concerned with his philosophy. He and Buddy have both said they will do whatever is best for this football team. In my opinion (which also coincides with a lot of insightful and knowledgeable posters on this board), there is a problem with the coaching and design of schemes that the current defensive coordinator is using.

I know Edwards was picked by Chan, but if it's not working, move on. This was Chan's mantra about talent, if it applies to players it should also apply to coaches. Success is usually hindered by stubbornness. I really hope that after this season Chan is not stubborn.

He said as much. He said he focuses on the offense and does not get involved with the D-Coordinator's game management.

I don't mind a head coach who knows how to delegate, but he has to make sure that the person he is putting his trust in can get the job done. Edwards has had two years to show some progress and so far his unit is stinking up the joint.......again.

I'm fairly certain he hired the Stache, an assistant head coach oh by the way, to handle the head coaches responsibilities with the D.
