I pulled the stats for every team in the NFL with total number of players on injured reserve and the teams win & loss record.

With Matt Schaub season likely being over, expect Houston 7-3 to battle the healthy Tennessee Titans 5-4 for AFC South crown and the loser will likely flame out an miss the playoffs.

The Buffalo Bills 10 players on IR 5-4 record have done an admirable job considering the disadvantage of having so many starters end up on IR.

I expect the 2 AFC Wild Cards will likely be Baltimore/Cincy/NY Jets.

In the NFC the biggest dissapoint has to be Phily, with only 2 guys on IR and a 3-6 record.

If Detroit stays healthy only 6 on IR so far, they will likely end there long playoff drought, and put Buffalo as the team with the longest playoff drought.

Our problem is we tend to lose more guys year over year than our opponents. It's no excuse look at Green Bay last year, but wholistically the more guys on IR the worse the season.

I still maintain that the Bills are more aggressive at using the IR to create roster space than other teams. Players who might be out only 4-6 weeks seem to be put on there at times by the Bills because they want to add a player to the active roster for depth.

Is our strength and conditioning program flawed? Why do we chronically have a lot of guys on IR?

Teams out of the playoff race are quicker to IR players. Why risk further injury if your out of it essentially. Part of the stats to keep in mind

I agree with this. If you look at the 10 guys on IR, only 4 of them were expected to see significant time and be contributors this year, 5 if you include Easley. The rest are mostly guys fans who don't follow training camp or preseason have likely never heard of.

We're somehow always near the top with injuries. Year after year they pile up like falling snow. People used to say it's because we were a "small" team, I always that was BS and this year proves it. Other than Parrish (who diminutive size likely plays a role), our list is loaded with players who are a good size for their position: K Williams, Merriman, Wood, Bell, Hairston, Kelsay, Easely, Nelson, A Williams, McGee, heck even Lindell got in on the action.

With being "small" no longer an excuse IT'S TIME BILLS GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THEIR INJURY PLAGUE ONCE AND FOR ALL.

That isn't a weird list- look at say the saints

Kicker on IR, multiple o lineman out, Vilma hurt, colston missed a month, ivory was on pup even the coach is on crutches. You just know your own bumps and bruises better than other teams.

10 guys on IR so far:

3 of them are injury prone (Merriman, Easley, Parrish), so no surprise there.

3 of them are scrubs (Corto, Hall, Huggins), so who cares.

2 of them would have made little impact on the rest of this season anyway (Torbor, White).

2 of them just ran into bad luck, and their absence hurts this team immensely (Williams, Wood).

Uhhh, O....K you are saying?

Hmmm… what are you saying?

IR is a big part of the injury story.

Kelsay isn't on IR but he's missed significant time and he's a very important player for the Bills.

Demetrius Bell isn't on IR but he's our starting left tackle and was playing very well.

Chris Hairston isn't on IR but he's our top swing tackle and was playing very well and would have lessened the blow of losing Bell.

The Bills weathered missing Urbik for 2 games but the injuries are really piling up right now and that is inarguable.

Just for the record, the Packers won the Super Bowl with the following on IR: Nick Barnett, Jermichael Finley, Morgan Burnett, Ryan Grant, Mark Tauscher, and 9 others.

I think our biggest problem isn't injuries as much as depth. Guy goes down and it's both more noticeable, and leaves us scrambling to fill.

Even the winners take hits- but with a few elite players added to capable fill-ins you get by. We have very few elite (if any) and are developing depth but not 100% yet
