Look, I promised myself that I wouldn't come here today because I just KNEW what was in-store..

Negative, negative, Fitx sucks, Defense sucks, Chan sucks, Nix has gotta go, Stevie sucks, Jones sucks.. On and on..

Ok.. My take on the situation.

1. We now know that we lack depth on Defense.

2. We lack depth on offense.

3. Our special teams is nothing special.

Ok, but, and a BIG FAT but..

We are, when healthy, a pretty competitive team, and can beat anyone in the NFL (Cept maybe Green Bay) on any given Sunday. That said, injuries cascade downward as they build.

Losing Kyle caused Darius to move to NT, Losing Kelsay caused opposing Defenses to only concemtrate on Darius. No DC fears Moats, Battan, or Sheppard. What it means is that Edwards has no choice but to use Wilson, and Byrd in run protection, and causes our DB's to play man to man. With Merriman out (I know some here hate on him, but the fact is that he forces DC's to scheme for his pressence) the whole problem intensifies. THIS is why our Defense sucks right now. Not because they aren't good, but because they're having to play multiple roles that they are not necessarily BEST suited for, and opposing OC's know it.

On offense, the same thing. It all begins and ends with the Offensive line. A line that has been unhealthy since week three, and caused our line to be put in the position of not playing our guys in their most ideal, and natural roles. Now with Wood out, who knows what will happen in Miami next week?

Now, all this doesn't mean that "some" of the criticism hurled at Fitz, and Chan, and other players isn't warranted, but not anywhere near to the degree that some here are saying. The net result of our woes can be mostly reversed if we can play with a healthy squad. Yes, a lot of teams don't have a healthy team all the time, and seem to do well, and we certainly need to address this in the draft. If (All these if's) Fitz can just hit a few guys deep on a consistent basis, and "If" our O-Line can protect Fitz for more than 2 seconds we move from a mediocre team that we are now, to a playoff team, and one that can contend.

We really are only a few key injuries away from righting the ship, and that's my take. Yes, it is frustrating to watch our season blow up like this, but you have to admit, both the Jets and the Cowboys played perfect games. The Jets played their best game all season to beat us, and so did the Cowboys. That alone says that teams are respecting the Bills, and even if they do know that our spread short passing offense is all we have, they still get up for the games when playing us..

Go Bills, and even if we do somehow miss the playoffs due to our serious key injuries, we still have a good solid foundation for next season.

Just my opinion!

My take at the beginning of the year was that the Bills were improved and a solid 8-8 team, with a good chance at 9-7 and an outside chance (baring injuries such as the loss of A.Williams, K.Williams, Merriman, Bell, Parrish and possibily others) at 10-6. We would need luck with the development of some new players and everybody performing well.

It looks like we are right on schedule for an 8-8 or 9-7 season. We have some obvious holes at OLB and offensive line depth and could use a studd defensive end. What is the big surprise? We were fortunate that Fritz & Gailey's smarts on offense got us a couple of wins based upon a smoke and mirror offense. We don't have the horse up front to win with a pounding ground game, Fritz is below average on the long ball but superior elsewhere and our defense still can't get off the field because of the lack of a pass rush. We are still in a rebuilding mode from the start of a very bad team but at least there is a rational plan and common sense being applied.

I have been mocked for early on for predicting a 8-8 or even winning season, then insulted for not trying to whip the horses into a frenzy along with the newbie bandwagon people, and now that they have jumped off and gotten involved back again with hockey or college basketball or pornography, I feel I'm left alone still rooting for a (for real) improving team.

Let's hope the Bills right the ship, think up new ways to entertain and confound the opposition and show player improvement to build upon for next year.

Go Bills!!!

Well our D has been bad from day 1. Dareus isn't anything to rail against but he's not some all-world all the time impact guy. The fact that you say Moats, Shepp, and Batten aren't anybody to fear...that's a problem. Those are our guys. The guys we draft aren't really getting better. I know they're young but when you do get a lot of playing time by the end of your first you start to show more signs than we've seen if you end being an impact guy. As for the second year for last years class by the end of this year it would be surprising to see any gigantic change in momentum. Now I'm not saying no young guys we have are any good at all. But I am saying they aren't "good" and you turn from young to just crappy pretty quickly in this league. Not sure I agree on the Merriman deal but I would like to and Kyle Williams is a legit huge blow for us but you have to go w/ what you have.

This is one of the biggest problems I have w/ the coaching staff. I don't believe there are some holes in our scheme itself I'm sure the guy knows football. And I can even understand if the playcalling has to be limited b/c we get our teeth kicked in if we try and do anything too fancy. But the ability to develop, coordinate, and motivate our mix of young and old is completely lacking. Our secondary is a joke. LBs don't really make too many big plays. Dline probably plays better than last year even w/ out Kyle but still gets pushed around. There is no pass rush.

You get the point. I'm not trying to pile on. I'm really not trying to have a negative tone either. But reading it, it is negative. That's just the way it is IMO. Yes if everyone were healthy the D probably would play a little better but it would still have the problems listed above...guys don't develop/step up consistently. Talent. Coaching. A mix of those two.

Whatever the reason there is no real indication of turning the corner on that side of the ball. I like to think a good draft, a new bill of health, a new coach, and maybe JUST MAYBE we get lucky and one or two existing players actually play better and we could start to stop people. I hope that's true but honestly looking at that list that is a lot of things we don't do well...draft...hire coaches...get lucky...stay healthy...etc...

...not to mention we need OL and WR help on offense too.

All that said...we're better than last year for what that's worth. Maybe if we escape Miami and get at least normal on the Oline even if we lose to NY we can put together a run. That's saying a lot. It's enough to hold onto for now to avoid crashing on the team.

Some key injuries to a paper thin team. And the plan is to build through the draft. That means you have to pay the players on your roster or trade them, but only when you have someone to fill the hole. Not releasing them. keep them and pay the $. So need 2 OT's 2 LB's, 1 CB 2 WR's 1 QB. That's like 4 years worth of high / starting quality draft picks and all panning out. But Buff won't bring any FA's to build up roster unitl first releasing someone to create a gaping hole.

So the vicious circle continues because Ralph is cheap.

Nothing will change till he is gone...

A nice little run of good luck to start this season. Now reality of 16 game season sets in...

So glad I threw out my Bills junk years ago to jump on the Packer's bandwagon. I can hold my head up that it wasn't to the cheatriots or cowgirls. but to a nicely run classy franchise.

But in my closet, I still yell GO BILLS.

I agree with everything you wrote. ChaNix have put together a very good starting team. Now they have to develop depth. Now is not the time to wanna run them out of town.

Not really... not until they draft some O line players that can stay healthy, or find some in free agency.

Teams have figured out how to stop the short quick passes, and because the OT's can't give Fitz more then 3 seconds to throw, the Bills can't utilize 5-7 step drop passes. So there is no mid range and deep passing game.Gailey needs to show that he can adjust and find another way to get the passing game working.

While I agree Gailey has managed to get the most out of a team of cast offs and back ups, he still needs to show he can adjust when the opposing defense shuts down Fitz and Fred. Then there is the defense, how many years have they tried to find a decent pass rusher and failed?
