UConn James
Happens a lot. People retire/"step back"... and they go breasts-up a short time later. Granted, at his age, it was a little more probable than most retirees. No surgery is "minor" at 92. RIP, Mr. Rooney. KD in CA
No surgery is "minor" at 92. That's what I was thinking. At that age death is more from complications of being 92 than anything else. RIP

Mr_Blizzard
No surgery is "minor" at 92. RIP, Mr. Rooney. I think he worked as long as he possibly could, but his body was worn out. He looked very frail in a video clip taken shortly after his retirement. R.I.P. Andy
Just Jack
RIP Mr. Rooney My favorite AR interview youtube.com/watch?v=P1EFyyoxa4k I read his book and saw his last 60 Minutes bit, and I don't think Andy was playing along as a joke. He really seemed to be a "bitter old man".

Chef Jim
He was just so fun to watch on 60 minutes. The eyebrows were amazing! You know I don't get that old man/crazy eyebrow thing. As soon as mine started going wonky trimming them became a routine.
truth on hold
I sat next to him and his wife at a Manhattan restaurant probably around 15 yrs ago. He was the same in person. Looked around the room all night and questioned just about everything: "Why do they do this?" "why do they call it that?" etc etc ... His wife was just like "yes dear, yes dear" lol. He definitely just "played" himself on TV. Good guy, he'll be missed

He really seemed to be a "bitter old man". I read a Letterman interview probably 25 years ago, where they asked him something like who he didn't like or who was a bad guest or something........And, he said that he thought that Andy Rooney played this part of a curmudgeonly guy and he'd be great to talk to, and it turns out he wasn't playing any part and was a miserable person. I can believe that, so much whining... I'd either change the channel or mute the TV as soon as I knew he was coming on. Still, may he R.I. P., hope he finally finds happiness on the other side. KD in CA
youtube.com/watch?v=lw3SOvXgAgY That's one of my favorite B&B video reviews. Somehow I'm guessing the humor was lost on Rooney.
