Fingon Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Kyle Williams game against the Steelers last year was rated the single best defensive game by any player by pro-football prospectus (The best game since they started keeping their metrics in 1997). And that was against a very good center in Pouncy. Dareus had a beast game today don't want to take anything away from that. More so just giving props to Kyle last year. Yep, that Pittsburgh game was ridiculous. KW had 10 tackles and 2 sacks.

Cash Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I listened to most of the 2nd half on the radio while in the Atlanta airport. How did we come up with 9 sacks? Did we blitz a lot? Probably more than usual this year, but I wouldn't say a lot. The majority of the time we rushed 4, and got a very good push up the middle. Most of the sacks resulted from Beck panicking once the line was pushed back in his face, then one of the ends or DTs would bring him down as he tried to scramble. Definitely some pressure was from the blitz, though. Jairus Byrd had a nice sack on what looked like a 7-man blitz - Byrd was untouched and took down Beck with a Flying Mare. Just going from memory, I'd say maybe 3-4 of the 9 sacks were on blitzes?
John from Riverside Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Why wouldn't we just play 4-3... Dareus and Williams as DTs, Carrington/Johnson and Edwards at DEs and then Moats-Sheppard-Kelsay at LB. We have more issues w/ LBs than w/ DL at this point. I have to say that I never understood the concept of 310lb DE and 300lb LBs,... it just doesn't make sense. There's no speed off the ends Its just hard to understand if you want a 4-3 defense (which in my opinion would not necessarily be a bad idea especially if Dave W. takes over the defense) But in a 34 you have to have 300 plus pound DE's because your DE's are not pass rushers....your linebackers are....and its the job of your down linemen in a 34 to take up blockers....shut down running lanes.....and control the edges. This is actually why Marcel may in fact be in the wrong spot as a 34 defensive end...he seems to be getting bigger every day (I mean serious....340 pounds is legit NT size......but he has all the athleticism of a DE) In my opinion we should scrap the 3-4 and go out and get legit pass rushing DE's......because Williams and Darius could seriously be better then Pat WIlliams and Ted Washington. Here is the thing....I think we have some legit pass rushing DE's on the roster right now they have just been misused.....we need linebackers and secondary

There's no speed off the ends Well watching the game they never really put Johnson or Carrington in many coverages. So in effect with Kelsey playing some end also its a trick 4-3 so to speak. I like the way Johnson is playing. They will miss Williams this week. But I like Marcel in the middle.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 The man did a good job! I was worried about Williams being out, but the Dareus, Edwards, Johnson combo worked quite well. I'll be happy when K. Williams come back, but I am relieved to see Dareus playing this well as a rookie. It was great how the pieces came together today. Excellent game plan with some nice stunts and blitzes. Spencer and Dwan both had great days. I'd like to see the Bills give Kyle sufficient time to heal up although I'm guessing he won't be 100% until next season. If Dareus continues to play as he did today I would keep him as the NT and move Williams to the end. Dareus looks better at the position and made everyone else look better as well. Not to take anything away from you but this suggestion has come up from time to time, the idea that Dareus is more suited to the nose and Williams to end. The counter has always been that Kyle's not "long enough," doesn't have the body type to play end. I say why not try it? Joe Klecko was a similar type player as Kyle and he was a great end. Is Washington's line that bad or did we all of a sudden discover how to sack quarterbacks with a vengeance? That is the question. Washington's O-line is pretty bad. Maybe a bit of both. Everyone played great but, where was Sheppard? He doesn't play nickel so that was a big factor even though technically he started. Morrison got lots of nickel snaps in the 2nd Half… in place of Barnett. Why wouldn't we just play 4-3... There's no speed off the ends I'd be willing to bet that the Bills have played more 4-3 than 3-4 this season. Seems to me by a wide margin. Some of us were expecting steady improvement in the D during the season. On paper they're talented. Maybe like someone else suggested, the D will look back on the bye week as a turning point, much like it was for the offense last year.
cage Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 No Barnett? He's been our best LB so far... Ooops,... yeah Barnett in the middle. Just an oversight
