BillsBytheBay Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 No big deal. The Bills took a chance. I don't really think we lost out on anything. Time to see who can step up!

Taking a chance means the odds are greater that things won't work out. We rolled the dice and lost a mil or two. Big whoop. PTR
aussiebills Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Aren't we a mill or two away from Stevie johnson
Chandler#81 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 sonofa... What hurts the most is how he encouraged Barnett and others to come here and make something new happen. Damn shame!
H2o Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Moats is getting more pressure on the QB than Merriman was anyway. This is good for his developement if anything. We will be fine, our DC just needs to come up with better blitz packages to free people up.
dollars 2 donuts Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Taking a chance means the odds are greater that things won't work out. We rolled the dice and lost a mil or two. Big whoop. PTR I'm sure the Bills, PTR, would love for you to pony up your "we" portion of the mil or two. $2D
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I bet this was a roster-based move. That is, my guess is that he could have come back within the next few weeks, but the Bills would rather sign someone else than take a banged up, non-producing Merriman.

PDaDdy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Can we revive the me against the world thread about Merriman not having done anything since getting off the juice and beginning his string of injuries 3 plus year ago??? Everyone tried to blast me up and down about how it was a "good risk" to sign him for a few million. I of course argued that that money could be used to sign a difference maker. Sometimes the difference between a pro bowler and a lunch pail veteran is only a couple million. Nobody could even come close to qualifying much less quantifying the risk but judged it to be a good one. I don't know about you but if I walk into a casino and I don't know the odds of the game...I'm not playing it and I SURE as hell would not say it was good risk. That is just a dumb uninformed decision. I hoped this guy would prove me wrong. I would have been happy if he could have been 75% as successful as he used to be statistically. My heart wanted to believe he could become a valuable contributor but my head told me he was done. Not just done in Buffalo, but done for good. His body is broken beaten and scarred. I feel really bad for the guy and worse for this team. It leaves an enormous hole AFTER THE TRADE DEADLINE and getting rid of Maybin. At this point I don't think he will ever be anything more than an IR spot waiting to happen.
benbillsfan Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Let's all cry! Or just move on with what we have... Kelvin Shepard will make a huge impact on this team. Just watch! Remember you heard it here first!
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Are we the only team that comes out of the bye week with more injuries?

That is, my guess is that he could have come back within the next few weeks, but the Bills would rather sign someone else than take a banged up, non-producing Merriman. Or maybe Merriman is just broken like some of us said and hasn't done jack since his rash of injuries and steroid suspensions.
Realist Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Well, I liked that they took the chance, unfortunately it didn't work out.
billsfan89 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I think he will see a camp invite next season as why not. BUT this is upsetting and really makes me hate the NFL IR system. There really should be some sort of disabled list where you can put a guy on IR for 4 weeks or 8 weeks instead of being out for the season. Now I don't know the extent of the injury but is it possible that in 4-8 weeks he could have attempted to come back? I think so. I freaking hate when a team has to IR a guy because they need the roster spot rather than simply because he can't play the rest of the way. Bring in a vet OLB as insurance and have either Moats or Batten take over Merriman's spot. I hope maybe this shut down before a major injury can get Merriman back healthy for next year. But the guy will be 28 next year and while that's not really old its hard to see a guy who has missed 3 out of the last 4 seasons with major injuries really making much of an impact.
PDaDdy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Kelvin Shepard will make a huge impact on this team. Just watch! Remember you heard it here first! What does Kelvin Sheppard at ILB have to do with losing Merriman at OLB?
eball Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 As soon as the Achilles flared up again, I think many of us feared the worst. PDaDdy was, I hate to say, right.
PDaDdy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 As soon as the Achilles flared up again, I think many of us feared the worst. PDaDdy was, I hate to say, right. I know I can be a real d*ck sometimes trying to drive a point home but I'm as disappointed and upset as everyone else. Part of being a fan, which we all are and sometimes forget, is hoping when there is no factual reason to hope. I hoped for the best but was prepared for the likely future.
Louie Armstrong Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 In retrospect, opting for the Merriman jersey over the Fitzpatrick may not have been an ideal choice for myself.
KD in CA Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 So in other words, he'll have the same impact going forward as he has so far this season. Not a surprise or a great loss.
