White Linen Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Very good news but I like others am still a little skeptical. Fitz can definitely lead us, great guy and tough player. My fear is we don’t lock up Stevie and Freddie. Stevie and Fitz have big time chemistry and if he hits the market, meaning Stevie J., I don’t think Fitz will be the same or our offense. Freddy, is an ABSOLUTE must to lock up. Throw a 4 year deal at him. If he tires after 2, then make a decision but right now, he's playing like the MVP of the league. Point is all 3 of these guys are the backbone of the Franchise and are leading us in a direction we haven't seen in a while folks. We have the money so I am ok with the proposed 9 to 12 mil per. We need all 3 and we need them locked up NOW!!! GO BILLS I don't get this. Fred is signed for the next two years and is just complaining about his contract. So you're skeptical about signing Fitz in fear of losing Johnson? First things first my friend.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Being burned by "early-season success" once since 1996 is hardly an excuse to not lock up Fitz. Well, it's been a few more times than that. But I don't disagree. I was just saying why some folks are reluctant to endorse Fitz. I personally love the guy, hope he succeeds, and hope we lock him up.
NEPA Bills Fan Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I don't get this. Fred is signed for the next two years and is just complaining about his contract. So you're skeptical about signing Fitz in fear of losing Johnson? First things first my friend. Absolutely. My point is they need to lock these guys up for the next 3 - 4 years. Steve is Fitzy's go to guy and they are putting us back on the map. I assume you are from the Buffalo area. I am not but I do get to at least 3 home games a year. No one around Northeastern PA follows the Bills but they know Stevie, Fitz and Freddy. Not an argument here my man. my opinion. I realize Fred is still under contract but we do need to extend and pay the man. MVP!! Go Bills!!
BillsBiker Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 we've been burned before by early-season success, that's why. I think some people hate the idea of locking Fitz up, but then we witness an epic second half collapse. lol this is not a jp loseman, trent edwards, ect type guy. Fitz is smart, and truthfully the better he plays the less mistakes he will make. He is worth it now.
NewEra Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011
What would change between then and now besides Fitz being 4 weeks closer to free agency and perhaps deciding to wait & see would he could get on the open market?
. He could throw 3 picks a game and we lose 3 games in a row. 9-12 mill is a LOT of money per year. If we're gonna pay him that much, I don't see why we don't wait. I can't see demanding more than 12 mill a year on the market. He's an effective player in chans offense, with one of the leagues best running backs ( still can't believe people were telling me Travis Henry was better.). He may be a decent qb elsewhere, but this offense is key in his success. All I'm saying is, 9-12 mill a year is a lot of dough, a couple more weeks of great play will earn him that payday.
BRAWNDO Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 What would change between then and now besides Fitz being 4 weeks closer to free agency and perhaps deciding to wait & see would he could get on the open market? I can't see Fitz leaving. Gailey has created an offense that plays to his strengths and limits his weaknesses.

So lets say he throws 3 picks a game and we manage to win 2 out of 3 by the defense alone. What does that give him? Do you have some sort of formula for that? x=wins y=interceptions 7 million + (x - y) = salary offered per year?
John from Riverside Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Look Ryan Fitz has earned his money......pay the man for christ sake
Andrew in CA Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Finally, a little stability and confidence at the QB position. I hope this comes through and Stevie and Freddy are next.
reddogblitz Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Re signing Fitz would give us a decent to very good QB for the next several years while we work on fixing up the rest of our team. Good move if they do it.
thewildrabbit Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Good to see the Bills are going to finally give Fitz a fair deal, also its a good thing he turned down the earlier offers ... This year Fred Jackson has shown he is one of the top 5 RB's in the NFL, he should be the next to get a pay raise.
Mr. WEO Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Ralph is cheap. Also, Overdork. And Mort's a douche, no?
Big Turk Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 We can ill afford to pass up good, and the harshest critic would find it difficult to argue he hasn't been good, to go in search of great, especially when our QB situation has been so bad for so long. It would be like dumping a really pretty girlfriend because you are looking for a chick who is pornstar hot. Yeah, its possible you might find one, but the odds are not in your favor...

So 19 good games as a starter isn't enough to determine how much to pay him, but 22 will be? I don't understand what watching 3 more weeks will tell you.
T master Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Every body about signing Kelsay to a decent contract & he now is living up to what Nix & company thought he would be a fixture in our D . I read that more than a few are still on that band wagon with Fitz "we should have waited another 4 weeks" !!! Look at it this way we have a good 1st string QB that is willing to teach the incoming QB (when ever that happens) & we have a great back up when that day comes so how can we figure that this is a bad thing for the team ??? It's a win - win for the Bills !! Speaking of winning - GO BILLS !!!!!!!!
Thoner7 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 What would change between then and now besides Fitz being 4 weeks closer to free agency and perhaps deciding to wait & see would he could get on the open market? He tanks it like DJ did in 08
Gordio Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Still don't love the dollars but I can cope. I think it's a little high in percentage of cap space given his play but it's not like were against the cap so..... I'm not jumping off any bridges. What do you care? It's not your money. Around $10 million is more then fair for both sides. It seems like alot of money but that is the price of doing business in the NFL right now. Very good news but I like others am still a little skeptical. Fitz can definitely lead us, great guy and tough player. My fear is we don’t lock up Stevie and Freddie. He is the best player on the team. As far as Johnson, I would not be surprised if he has some sort of extension before Thanksgiving.

GO BILLS i dont understand the fear that a lot of fans have that Stevie and Jackson dont get resigned Now that the Bills have basically extended Fitz they can at worst franchise Stevie which im sure they will if they cant work out a contract everyone knows Jackson is underpaid but he is also under contract for another two years these guys are not going anywhere Edited October 21, 2011 by Max997
mattsox Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I'll take it. Williams, FITZ, Stevie, Jackson. Too soon? Gotta get all them signed. Stevie and Freddie are too important to lose.
