BuffaloBillsForever Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 All the backlash about trading Lynch. Many proclaimed including myself Lynch was expendable and it was no big deal he was traded. Jackson has intangibles which many backs don't have and that is patience at the point of attack. His pass blocking is amazing as well.
PromoTheRobot Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Lynch had a decent game yesterday but has been mostly invisible this season. 239 yds rushing, 83 yds receiving, 2 TDs. Compare to Freddy: 480 yds rushing, 232 receiving, 5 TDs. I'd say the Bills made the right call. PTR
DDD Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Lynch was good but Jackson is playing at a MVP level. I think the Bills win one game without him.
macaroni Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I think the big deal was the drafting of Spiller which gave us an overcrowded backfield. I was never much of a Lynch fan (mostly due to his off field exploits) but I recognized he was a talented & determined power runner ... We Bills fans thought Jackson and Lynch made a pretty good 1-2 punch. Enter Spiller and the outlook get muddied and one back has to go. As to Lynch being "expendable" that still remains to be seen .... Spiller has really not lived up to what the Bills thought they were drafting ... and how long can Freddie keep taking a beating?

Finally, for once I get to say I was right about something!!! It only took a little over 40 years to get something right!!! Seriously though I'm proud to say I've been in Freddie's corner for a while now...I could never figure out why some Bills Fans did not see what I was seeing in the guy...I've heard a lot of comparison of Freddie to other RB's...But mine has always been Marcus Allen...I've been saying for a while Freddie reminds me of Marcus Allen without the top end speed...Still...That's pretty good...
Thoner7 Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Jackson is having a great year, and has always been under rated. That doesnt mean Lynch isnt good too. People forget that Lynch had some sick runs too, like the two TD runs/receptions v the Fish and Browns where he broke like 15 tackles on each run. With better blocking like we are getting now he would likely be doing pretty well, albeit a backup to Jacksn. He Would contribute more than Spiller is IMO.

Spiller has made plays consistently this season when he gets the ball. He's just in the unfortunate (for him, but good for the team and its fans) situation of being forced off the field by the great play of Jackson thus far.

Jackson is playing out of his mind right now. Lynch wouldn't see anymore time that what spiller has been. Actually I would think Lynch would be basically a non-factor on this team because of the style of offense Chain Gailey uses. Spiller fits his system as you can spread him out. BTW Spiller has filled his role quite well on some nice underneath pass patterns in the spread offense and when he has ran it is for some decent gains. Spillers yards per run is quite high actually. Dorkington Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I still would have preferred to keep Lynch and use Spiller's pick on defense, but that's hindight... Lynch's upside is that he's younger, but Jackson is proving to be the better back.
Dan Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I've wanted Jackson to be our starter since I saw him playing in NFL Europe, however many summers ago that was now. The guy looked like a beast then just as much as he does now. I was against the trading of Lynch, not because I wanted him over Jackson, but more that I just saw it as more of the same running in place that this team had been doing for a decade. Trade a good RB, just so you can draft a good RB. Now maybe Lynch's attitude or some other off the field issue made him expendable. That, I don't know. But, as far as on the field production goes... there's not a lot of difference between Lynch and Spiller. I truly hope Spiller changes that!
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I remember being one of the first people to call for Lynch's head, and getting blasted by a bunch of people. Never understood how you could say Lynch--the dancer--was better than Jackson--who hits the hole, has great vision, and is much more elusive.
John from Riverside Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I think the harping on Spiller really needs to stop.....he is doing something with the ball when he gets it and he has a top 5 NFL back in front of him getting the carries. You cant do anything if you dont get the carries....and you dont take the hot hand out of the game just to do that.

Lynch ran hard for most of the time he was here, I don't know why/when he turned into the dancer. His first couple years he hit the hole and then never stopped moving his legs.
EastRochBillsfan Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I always liked Lynch but he was just making too many off field problems and I understand why he was traded. But, I have always LOVED Freddie and can remember many posters here on the Lynch side claiming Freddie could run the ball all over the field but just couldn't get in the end-zone. Where are they now? cause they were wrong.
