HeyNowBuffalo Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Has Mularkey explained his reasoning behind the fake field goal at the end of the Cincinnati game?... Perhaps more interestingly, did Marvin Lewis comment on it?... I bumped around a bit and didn't see anything from the Buffalo/Cincinnati media
Josh Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 He called it a "rookie mistake" on his part. He wanted to see if they could pin them down even further, but it failed. He said something along the lines of "Of course Rian had to make it right when I called the time out. The referee couldn't get the whistle in his mouth in time."
jarthur31 Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 LOL, that was in his press conference this morning at Bills.com. I knew someone from the sidelines called it but not sure who it was.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I actually think the "rookie mistake" was GOING for the FG, when the game was basically over. He likely called the TO to think it over, after which he decided to run a fake to a) not run the score up and b) give future teams something to think about. I liked the fact that Lindell made the 48 yarder and then didn't have to attempt it again, boosting his confidence, and that the Bills didn't tack-on a meaningless FG for no good reason.
