Pete Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 this D is on the way up and has some talent. But we need to get to the QB. Merriman is not he answer. A stud DE and OLB would do wonders for us. Not to mention a solid CB. We are close on D, but need a little more talent infusion
LabattBlue Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 7 defensive draft picks(rounds 1-3) in the last 3 drafts, and they still can't rush the passer.
BfloBillsFan Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Top 2012 Bills draft needs (in order): 1. Cornerback 2. Pass Rusher 3. Quarterback 4. Run Stopper D Lineman (if can get 2 and 4 in one person great would be great)
Fezmid Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 We could have Reggie White and Bruce Smith on the line, and we still wouldn't get any pressure if teams are continued to allowed to hold us on pretty much every play.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 7 defensive draft picks(rounds 1-3) in the last 3 drafts, and they still can't rush the passer. Can we move on from Maybin? Please? It's over man. Let him go As far as the 5 R1-3 defensive draft picks I know about, um, it was my understanding they were chosen to beef up the line and improve the secondary - not for their pass-rushing skills. It's also my understanding that linemen and linebackers can take 3 years or so to develop in the NFL. At least, some former defensive powerhouse teams think so. I do agree that a pass rush appears to be an unmet need.

True. But I've learned by reading this forum today that the NFL officials don't blow calls.

No sacks in the seocnd half hurt us. Maybe we could do more with blitz packages but so far we have not tried much with blitzes. We are like 75% of the other NFL teams, we need more pass rushers.
Geno Smith's Arm Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Is it fair to expect them to go from the worst defense to the next Steel Curtain in one off-season? They are headed in the right direction, and I'm sure that they know they need a real pass rush specialist. They tried with Maybin (not living in the past, but if he had been even 3/4 the player the expected the defense would be where it needs to be), didn't pan out. The Merriman acquisition was gravy, and I think he is doing just "alright" but isn't the answer. They need an impact player on the outside.

John Cocktosten Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Shhhhh...don't say that, you'll be slayed by the "16 and 0ers".

Geno Smith's Arm Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 We have a couple DB's injured right now. One of them a promising rookie.

We desperately needed to generate some heat up front, and just couldn't do it.
