1B4IDie Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Anyone notice Dareus getting double teamed, hang back, then tip the ball while being double teamed on the Florence PIck-6? Is that coaching, the player or both? Either way, our first round pick made a huge play that allowed us to beat the Pats*! If he isn't there, that is probably ANOTHER complete pass to Welker in the slot, and the game goes a different way. Not to mention that he is actually getting double teamed (unlike a former first round pick that plays for the Ravens) on every play. If you watch the line play, the Chiefs, Raiders and Pats definitely game planned for him already. This is the biggest 1st round, impact rookie for the Bills, since who? J. Kelly, B. Smith, and OJ, didn't exactly have great rookie years. Please Stay healthy big guy and keep grinding! The stats don't matter the real fans know your worth. bizell Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Dareus is a beast, for sure. And just think... this is just the tip of the iceberg. I can't wait to see how good he's going to be.
PromoTheRobot Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 The guy pursues the play past the line of scrimmage. When was the lady time we had a D-lineman who did that? PTR
The Big Cat Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Not to spoil the party, but IIRC, Brady threw the ball off Dareus' facemask. It wasn't as though Marcellusaurus made some tremendous 12' leap to redirect the ball's flight. Rather, his big ass dome just got in the way.

He pops up, with his hand and helmet while getting mauled by two offensive lineman. He pops in order to tip the pass and he was successful. You are correct that he didn't leap 12" in the air, but he was making a play on the ball. He wasn't just standing there. I've watching the play about 12 times now. You can see it seems like he tried to make a rush but the double team was working better on that play so he held off on the continuing the rush in order to clog the passing lanes. Okay, just watched it again and he does "pop up." He's playing aggressively, that's for sure. Just no quit in the guy, that's also for certain. But he definitely took it off the dome.
The Wei 44 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 That was a key play - It doesn't jump off the stats sheet, but he really is one of the main reasons we got over the hump and beat those guys. He is a playmaker and his impact will likely only increase with time and experience.

You realize that because of Brady's height he had to throw that ball with a downward projectory, right? Dareus made a great play for a rookie by knowing to get his hands and body into the passing lane, especially while battling a double team. Not many rookie defensive lineman have the awareness that Dareus showed on this play.Enjoy the fact that our rookie made a great play that ended up keeping us in the game.

She* was afraid of him - she* was trying to do a 'Paul Crewe' but became so frightened, she* missed the target. GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! . Edited September 27, 2011 by The Senator

Cotton Fitzsimmons Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 IMO, it was no accident that so many passes were getting batted around as the game wore on. It was a great technique and great play by Dareus. It's also no accident that nobody's run on us so far this year. Anyone see McFadden rip the Jets D yesterday? Marcell has made a huge impact on this team. Can't say enough good things about that pick. Cue the Herm Edwards voice: You play to win the game! But if not for Stevie's drop we never get this guy.
Lofton80 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I think the beneficiaries of his play are Dwan Edwards and Chris Kelsay along with the 2 inside lb's. Dareus is the highest impact Bill's rookie in years.

It's vital for fans to recognize that we've played GOOD teams for the past 3 weeks. Even the Chiefs, with a bad record, had Jamaal Charles in week 1. We have been doing what most teams could only hope to do on defense, and our offense is out-scoring teams that, no matter how you play defense, are going to score a lot of points. Sure the pass rush seems like a concern, but remember that it was the defensive line that was actually giving Brady fits. He got the ball out quick every play, but he did it for a reason, and the quicker you're forced to release the ball (especially when you're Tom "I could order a pizza and have it delivered while I stand flat-footed in the pocket" Brady) mistakes can happen against 7 in coverage. Things on defense will continue to tighten up regardless (and our secondary is injury depleted already), but make no mistake that this team overall is playing extremely well, and executing their game plan.
shibuya Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 and just think.. If Steve Johnson doesn't drop the pass against Pitt last year we don't draft Dareus

Hate to spoil your party, but that comment shows me that you don't know much about the play of a D Lineman my friend. Do you have any idea how hard it is to stay in front of the qb and stand tall while being doubled in the trenches? Obviously not. It was a tremendous play on his part, not just dumb luck. AxelRipper Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Pretty sure I saw him a few times running down field after someone. Impressive to see that much mass moving after someone.

Max997 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 i wouldnt say he tipped the ball but he def got in the way of it and the bills got a bounce they dont usually get Im going to say the last Bills impact rookie like Dareus was probably Rueben Brown who brought the Bills run game back to life.
