webtoe Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I can't think of a missed tackle all year.
GOBILLS78 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) He is definitely WAY improved in the open field. It seems as though that used to be weakness for him, but he has improved in that area, and it started against the Chiefs. Edited September 26, 2011 by GOBILLS78
DrDawkinstein Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Agreed, and that penalty on him was BS. I hope he keeps making that play. I'll take that penalty, IF the league is going to have to call it. I'll also take Barnett's 15 yarder for slamming Welker down, every time. I'll never get mad about hitting too hard and playing too intensely.

I honestly think that the call on Byrd was pretty weak, but if that's how they're going to call it, I'll take it every time. I like Barnett's intensity, and showing Welker that this is our house...but that can come back and bite you sometimes. Since it didn't this time, I'll take it.
Defend Greece Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Yes, and he only missed a couple all last year

As long as it's just once, in the beginning of the game, to set the tone and let them know they have a long day of hard work ahead of them... then it's fine. If he's doing it all game, then yeah, its a problem for sure. Go Bills!
bbb Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I love his play. Man, he must have worked hard. He turned his liability into a huge strength.........Now, if he does display some of his former ball hawk abilities, that would be the frosting on the cake. But, I like him better the way he's playing now than when he was making also those INTs.
nucci Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Good observation. He made some very good tackles yesterday.
NickelCity Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks for starting this thread. Byrd is a beast out there. I was FURIOUS for that ridiculous call.

I was going to start a thread on Byrd and his tackling... looks like I was beaten. Yes, he is markedly improved in this department.

Yes, he is markedly improved in this department. Actually, the Barnett bodyslam was stupid. I don't know if you could hear it on TV, but the refs whistles were blowing like crazy way before he bodyslammed him. At 15 yards, that is just not smart.
BuffOrange Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Be honest - who else was sad he didn't take Brady's head off on the Florence int? Looked like a perfect opportunity.

This x100, no problem with it because in the end we won the game. The Byrd penalty was silly, and Barnett is allowed to finish a tackle in my opinion.
Kaenon Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Byrd is a huge reason our run D has improved this year (as well as Dareus and Barnett obviously). So many less broken off runs by opposing teams.

I like the way Nick Barnett goes out there trying to knock a dude out.
Never NEVER Give-up Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 You're right, it was originally a weakness, now he's a very sure tackler. I hope he re-starts his ball-hawking again, he was unreal as a rookie.
TDRupp Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Byrd's call was weak... it is hard for the refs to get those perfect. Although I am a little happy that Vick is taking a beating, I find it hard to believe how the ref does not throw a 15 yard flag on the NYG De yesterday! Vick is a QB, the hit was borderline late and definitely high...no way refs can miss that. They would have thrown two flags (late ang high) if it was Brady, Manning, Rodgers, or most any QB. I do not see Canty's hit on Vick as fineable but the league should make it clear to officials that it was a penalty.
The Cincinnati Kid Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Byrd is everywhere out there. He was in position to make a play on the ball on Wilson's INT, he escorted Drayton into the Endzone, he made tons of tackles and had a few pass break-ups as well. His best play was the pass breakup with his right hand fully extended...looked like Inspector Gadget arms. Great player for the Bills secondary. He'll start getting more picks again too. I have full confidence of that.
jonramz Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 has played fantastic... very very impressed by him this year
BillnutinHouston Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) I'll be the first to admit I was not sold on Byrd after his gaudy first year stats, but after watching the replay, Byrd was a beast yesterday. Not only making tackles, but he had at least one key pass knockdown, diving BTW. He's playing very well. Edited September 26, 2011 by BillnutinHouston
