stevestojan Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 That's the first time I have ever seen "Philly" and "smartest" in the same sentence. Philadelphia: You're disgusting city gave Tom Hanks AIDS.
EastRochBillsfan Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 That Im not naive enough to assume a team that's dropped 15 straight to a perennial contender for over 10 years will win? That I can put things into perspective and not get euphorically high or suicidally low? Which means I won't fall to pieces if they don't prevail like all the rah rah cheerleaders will. Perspective? The perspective is our team is playing pretty well right now and we have a great chance to finally beat the Patricheats. What the hell will you do if we win??
Dragonborn10 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 All it takes is a drubbing by pats sunday to be irrelevant again Last year I would have agreed...this year I don't think so...A loss even a bad one to the pats will not doom this season...last years schedule was brutal and with two AFC victories already the Bills have a chance to be in the playoff discussion well past week ten or eleven...irrelevant is being out of playoff contention in mid-October

My comment applied to relevant in the media's/national fan base eyes at this stage of the season. Edited September 24, 2011 by Joe_the_6_pack

There are a lot of posters in this forum who don't get "euphorically high or suicidally low" but still think the Bills will win. And many of those same people will not "fall to pieces" if we don't happen to lose. Maybe it's the people who allow themselves to live and feel fully (optimism) who deal with these things better. Maybe it's those who are skeptical that use their skepticism as a defense against "falling to pieces." Stevestojan articulated what you might be feeling very nicely. But I'm gonna go ahead and expect a Bills win. If not, there's always week 4… whoever it is we're playing.
truth on hold Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Then there are those who interpret any comment other than gushy enthusiasm as "skeptical" and psychological preparation for a loss. Their feigned self assurance probably stems from an underlying lack of confidence; they favor premature celebration fearing they'll be deprived of it after the game is played. You must be fun to be around on the days leading up to Christmas. Do you act grim and humorless because you're unsure if you'll get satisfactory gifts?
