hondo in seattle Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 This is a monumental game. I think the Bills make the playoffs if we win. This is based on two arguments: 1. Lessons Learned. The Chiefs game taught the Bills to close the door on a weaker opponent. The Raiders game taught the Bills perseverance. A win against the Pats would teach the Bills they can play with the Big Boys. 2. NFL Arithmetic. If the Bills beat the Pats, we will only need to go 7-6 the rest of the season to earn a wildcard berth. This team is talented enough to finish 7-6.
Cash Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Your statement is true. However, I would be shocked - shocked! - if we beat the evil empire this week. Shocked into euphoria, but shocked nonetheless.

3rdand12 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) You have some pretty decent insight here. Especially in regard being able to win against the current owners of the afc east. Do it once and you KNOW you can do it again. Its been so long, hardly any one paying attention could believe it is possible yet. that will be the next important step for the BB. I do think we can beat the Jets at least once this season if we are able to stay healthy. Maybe twice. If we are going to beat the Pats this year i think we will have better chances next meeting. But as the mentioned with the Ancient Motocross dirt bike racing mantra. "On any Sunday" you just never know for sure. Go billsers Edited September 23, 2011 by 3rdand12
LGB Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Having attended past Bills/Pats games (Pats 15 - Bills 0 -latest streak),there would be nothing better than a Sam Adams type play for Dareus (tip/interception/TD) against the Pats to get things going. To the OP, the AFC East is tough and that means that the Bills most likely need to edge out the Jets, Pats and NE for a chance...thinking at least 10 wins?
Cotton Fitzsimmons Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 This definitely has the feeling of one of those "culture changers" around here. YE OLE is not a big fan of Schopp and the Bulldog, but I think Bulldog said it best last week during their postgame show. "If the Bills beat the Patriots next week... forget it, the lid is off this thing"
#34fan Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Playoffs?! Lotta work left to do here guys. Sure there's reason for hope, but let's try not to get carried away.

CBD Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I wouldn't be so sure that 10-6 guarantees a playoff spot.

PromoTheRobot Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Too much is made of beating the Pats. They are two games out of 16. The season isn't flushed if we lose to them...but we wil beat them Sunday. PTR

I like your optimism hondo, but as I said in the other thread, 10-6 will NOT get you in. The Bills will have to be 11-5. Does anyone think the Jets and Ravens will be hovering around 9-7? ...No.
HeHateMe Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 The whole 5-1 thing in 2008 is completely different. Our leader was soft and tentative Trent and we had a horrible coach. This team is nothing like that one.
BuffaloBaumer Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Was 2008 so long ago that you have forgotten what happened after a 5-1 start? http://www.nfl.com/teams/buffalobills/schedule?team=BUF&season=2008&seasonType=REG The Patriots were not one of those 5 wins so WHEN they do pull it off on Sunday, I would expect nothing BUT playoff talk from fans.
HARCO186 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I like the way you think, but why playoffs? We can go to the dance! It's a game and a win against this club is no different than any other. Just because they win one at home is not saying this, but if we sweep them then forget about it.
kickedface Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 the pats* always have a close game the first time we play them. its the second one of the season that the blow out occurs. though i think it would be a huge confidence boost for this young team. i love that they are already playing with a huge chip on their shoulder. i love it even more that everyone is counting them out.
The Big Cat Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Let's not just pull 7-6 from the ether, okay? Let's look at the 13 games we'll have left and see if we can reasonably count 7 wins: CIN(1) PHI NYG(2) WAS(3) NYJ DAL(4) MIA(5) NYJ TEN SD MIA(6) DEN(7) NE
