Alaska Darin Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Great. How's the Fred Jackson contract going?
CBD Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Great. How's the Fred Jackson contract going? Really good, it's got a little under 2 years left on it.
The Senator Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/Buffalo-Bills-owner-to-steer-1-million-to-UB-2179143.php Why that selfish, miserly, greedy old #$@*! A little more background contained in this from The Buffalo News... Bills' owner to give UB medical unit $1 million (I was going to post it earlier, but was distracted reading elsewhere on TSW that the Bills still suck) GO BILLSSS!!!! "I expect to be undefeated." - Chan Gailey 19 and 0 baby!!!
DrDawkinstein Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Great. How's the Fred Jackson contract going? Really good, it's got a little under 2 years left on it. Carey beat me to it. You should be concerned with the Fitz and SJ extensions since theyre on their last years. Freddie has plenty of time left on the contract he just signed, we can deal with him next year. For now, keep him running for his money.

I guess the BILLS don't have enough front office talent to work more than one thing at a time...
DrDawkinstein Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I guess the BILLS don't have enough front office talent to work more than one thing at a time... Theres simply no need to right now. There is enough other BS that needs to be fixed. Its not an issue.
billsfreak Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/Buffalo-Bills-owner-to-steer-1-million-to-UB-2179143.php He (or his people) make a donation somewhere this time of year, almost every year. Gotta get those tax write-offs in. Invest it in the team, then I will be impressed. Him giving a million to anywhere that doesn't have to do with the Buffalo Bills has nothing to do with how good of an owner he is-it's business.

You mean other than sending the message to the players that if you consistently play over your contract, you'll be rewarded for it? Because that's certainly not important for an organization that hasn't been in the playoffs for a decade.

DrDawkinstein Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 As does Fred Jackson, the first time. Ha! exactly!
Kelly the Dog Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 As does Fred Jackson, the first time. What? Jackson was a restricted free agent and the Bills offered him a one year $460,000 tender. It was embarrassing. Then they undercut him, IMO. They didn't have to break the bank for him, but he had never made any money before so he took the deal. It was a decent contract, not a good one. People say he wasn't a starter but he was, he started the last several games the previous season and was great. He's still pissed about his contract, but he's such a great player and teammate that he will always give his all. Pay the guy. You don't have to pay him $8 mil a season. They paid Kelsay because he's a good role model and leader and locker room guy and (they think) consistent player. Well, Jackson is much better on all accounts.

Agreed he deserves a raise, and they will get it worked out at the proper time. But the Bills have no reason to rush into talks with Jackson. Re-sign Fitz and SJ first. If Jackson does get a new contract this season, great. But that's up to the Bills. Edited September 20, 2011 by DrDareustein
Kelly the Dog Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Agreed he deserves a raise, and they will get it worked out at the proper time. But the Bills have no reason to rush into talks with Jackson. Re-sign Fitz and SJ first. If Jackson does get a new contract this season, great. But that's up to the Bills. Of course it's up to the Bills, it's always up to the Bills. Jackson may be the second most liked and respected leader on this team besides Fitzpatrick. The players love him. The idea that a team cannot negotiate or concentrate on more than one or two players at a time is just insane. Their priorities may be clear as to 1], 2], and 3], but they are sometimes (as in this case) mutually exclusive. There are times when a team cannot sign a player they may want to because they need to sign other players they may want more, and they need to know how much they pay player B before they can sign player A. That makes a lot of sense. But that is not the case here. They have a lot of money, a lot of room under the cap, they know they want all three and the easiest one, Fred Jackson, would not cost them a lot, nor would be it long term. It would send a huge message in the locker room and around the league. Right now, it sends a bad one. The players know he is underpaid and under-appreciated, and I'm not just making that up.

Its not the quantity of players, its the quantity of years left on Freddy's contract. Fitz is just as respected and liked. He is in his LAST year. Stevie is just as respected and liked. He is in his LAST year. If you want the team to send a message, then they need to get those guys re-signed.
