Buffalo Barbarian
Put this guy down as one of the many pleasant surprises on the Bills these first 2 games. Haven't been able to focus on him often, but when I do, he seems to be a strong pass blocker, and not bad in the run as well. Just thought that this guy deserves a shout-out for closing down the turnstile the Bills have had at RT for the past few years. John from Riverside
I wouldn't grade Bell as "impressive", but he was getting in the way. For christ sake..... Bell blanks Tamba Hali AND Richard Seymore who are two of the very best DE's in the game......Bell has not yet given up a sack when it appeared he was really struggling in pre season Yes Bell has been outstanding lets give him the credit he deserves and hopes he can keep it up. As for Pears....didnt Pears have a medical issue going on with him in Denver?
Malazan
Any update on Urbik's injury. nothing official in terms of time, but Gailey said it would be awhile.
bowery4
nothing official in terms of time, but Gailey said it would be awhile. Rhinehart is solid but we are out of experienced back ups. I didn't realize Rhinehart was subbing for Urbik at first as I didn't see the injury play but I like him better to be honest. Stay healthy guys, good game. Oh and one negative note, Bell was beat by 77 and caused Fitz to be hit at least 3 times today but to Fitz's credit he did get the ball out on all 3 (and at least one of those should have been called as a late hit). Bell was beasty in his run blocking too, so it is not a giant complaint, really.
2020 Our Year For Sure
For christ sake..... As for Pears....didnt Pears have a medical issue going on with him in Denver? Isn't Seymour playing DT in a 4-man front for them? Agree with your sentiment here though. Bell is the BIGGEST surprise in the early going in my opinion, and there have been a bunch of nice surprises on this team. Pears...should be a backup. He's not horrible but he makes a few blunders every game. I'm no coach but I do think he was better yesterday than in week 1, however. Alaska Darin
How was Levitre benched it the pre-season? He's been a beast. Perhaps he got the message they were sending...
UConn James
Perhaps he got the message they were sending... Am I mis-remembering this or wasn't the reason for the few-day demotion that he was late for a meeting?
bladiebla
The real surprises are Bell and Levitre, both have really stepped it up. So much that 2 games in against good defenses Bell hasnt even allowed a sack as of yet, whereas Pears has allowed one.
Bill from NYC
The O Line has played much better than anyone would have believed, and they deserve a ton of credit for sticking together and doing what they need to do to get this offense in a position to score. It's impossible to argue that they haven't played well when you score almost 40 points a game in two games and like today, rush for 200 yards. They deserve a lot of credit. That said, they play good for them. They don't give Fitz a lot of time, they give him two seconds of time. Rarely does he have time to look to his second or third option. Fitz is amazing at dropping back and throwing immediately. We're extremely efficient right now, which is awesome and a testament to Fitz and Gailey and the OL for giving him two seconds without a jailbreak, but good lines give three and four seconds. Freddy is unbelievable at making something out of nothing. We gave him just enough creases to sneak through but that's what he's good at. Surely, there were individual plays by all the guys that were top level. Levitre IMO had a very good game. We didn't give up a sack, so it was a great game. And we won because we were able to go down the field and score TDs on all five 2nd half possessions, a herculean feat. And the Raiders have a good front seven. But it's not at all that we give our QB all day to throw or our RBs huge holes to blow through,. That rarely, rarely happens. It's a testament, IMO, to Gailey and Fitz and Freddy, along with our receivers and, yes, our line, that we get so much production. You watch almost any other game and you will see a QB standing back for a few seconds and surveying the field. I don't really recall that happening once today. This was a perfect post. Nobody at all is being critical of their play yesterday. Not even me. You are right. Fitz is just so smart, and I don't want to downplay his superb athleticism. He gets himself in position to make a play in the bat of an eyelash. But imo, many miss the point of the bold above. Assuming the Bills OL is now average, improvement would only mean a second or 2 of comfort for Fitz on passing attempts, but that is a tremendous amount of time. Fitz always reminded me a bit of Matt Hasselback. There are differences (Hasselback had a bit more arm strength, and Fitz is more coordinated and athletic imo), but I view their skill sets as about equal. Whern Hasselback made the superbowl, he had 2 future hall of fame blockers in front of him as I recal (Jones and Hutchinson). My point is that Fitz can do this too imo. I like him better than Romo and yes.....Sanchez. If they continue to build in front of him, Fitz will be that much better and I hope they waste no time extending his contract.
