Wealthy LA bond fund manager and Buffalo native Jeffrey Gundlach told the Wall Street Journal in late May, 2011 that he might be interested in putting a goup together to buy the Buffalo Bills.

Not commenting here on whether that is likely to happen. Gundlach has been in a nasty court fight with his former employer - - for more on what happened before the case went to the jury, see:

The jury reached a verdict late yesterday - - here's a very preliminary report:

Jury Says Gundlach Stole Secrets, Breached Duty To TCW

By Zach Winnick

Law360, Los Angeles (September 15, 2011, 9:32 PM ET) -- A California jury found Friday that former TCW Group Inc. investment chief Jeffrey Gundlach had misappropriated trade secrets and breached his fiduciary duty to the company, but declined to award it any damages.

In a split verdict delivered to a Los Angeles courtroom packed far beyond its 49-person maximum occupancy, the jury said that Gundlach’s breach of duty had caused no harm to his former employer, but found that TCW actually owed the bond star $66.7 million for a failure to pay wages under the state...

More detailed reports explaining the outcome will probably be published soon.

FWIW, Jeffrey Gundlach will be a guest on the CNBC TV show "Strategy Session" that airs on Monday, September 19, 2011. The focus of the interview is likely to be the outcome of his court case, but I suppose it's possible (but unlikely) that he might be asked about his earlier statements to the WSJ about being intersted in buying the Bills.

Not sure how much $$$ Gundlach has. He's not on the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans. Terry Pegula is listed at $3B. Jeremy Jacobs at $2.1B, Bob Rich and $2B, Tom Golisano at $1.2B.

Gundlach finally appeared on the CNBC "Strategy Session" show on 10/4. Although neither the Bills nor football were discussed, if anybody wants to see a brief interview about mainly his recent trial, here's a video clip:

The Gundlach interview starts at about 2 minutes into the roughly 5 minute clip.

I don't know if he has the money to be a serious future bidder for the Bills, but it seems likely that he has connections to people with serious cash. Would any of them want to be part of an NFL ownership group in the future - - who knows?
