RLflutie7 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I'm starting to think that Fred Jackson is looking more and more like Terrell Davis. I haven't watched much of the Bills in recent years but I'm starting to believe that Jackson is that kind of player. What little I've seen of Jackson, he's a great downhill runner with plenty of power. I remember writing on these pages that Lynch stunk and the Bills needed to get rid of him and the Bills didn't have a decent running back on the roster. I rememeber saying that Jackson wasn't a NFL quality player and the Bills needed to draft several running backs in the draft. I'm starting to think, Jackson is the real deal and I didn't see the player that he was. I've probably never been so wrong about a player, as I have been with Fred Jackson. So tell me Bills fans, is this guy Terrell Davis in the making? I'll read your stuff on Friday.
NoSaint Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 30 is a rough time for a RB to be anything "in the making..." That said he's a talented dude
Virgil Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I'm sorry, but there is just no way. I am a huge Bills fan and am really impressed with Freddie after last week, but in no way is he Davis. Had Davis not gotten injured like he had, we'd be talking about him as one of the greatest ever. Even with his short career, people still make the argument. Yes, Freddie is tough, but Davis was on a whole other level. He was a one man wrecking ball who didn't just break arm tackles, he broke arms. The guy was a beast and the main reason Elway got his first Superbowl Ring.
JStranger76 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I like Fred and all, but no where near Davis. But even at 30, I think he has a good 3-4 years of full time work left in the tank, with probably another 2 used in a Kevin Faulk type role. In the end, not Davis, but could play till much older barring serious injury.

ganesh Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 He reminds me of the other Davis....Kenneth Davis of our own Buffalo Bills.
Meathead Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 yeah terrell davis was indeed one of the very best of all time when he was playing. that dude was close to unstoppable. in terms of individual years (not accounting for longevity) youd have to say he was on par with oj, dickerson, holmes, those kinds of devestating dominating backs i loves me some freddie but its silly to say hes in that class
Thunderstealer Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Fred's got attributes of former hall of famers. A little Earl Campbell, A little OJ (1970's OJ), a little TO.
Nanker Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I certainly don't think so. Neither do Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, nor Mr. and Mrs. Davis. There have been incidents of baby-switching in hospitals, but come on. Those are very rare. I'm pretty certain that Fred Jackson is who he says he is - Fred Jackson. And, I'm very glad he's a Buffalo Bill.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) Let's set aside the notion that Freddy is as good as TD and focus instead on any stylistic similarities which might exist. Yes, stylistically there are similarities in the way Jackson and TD run with the football. This comparison is way closer to the mark than the fairly recent thread about Freddy being similar to Thurman Thomas. Freddy actually couldn't be more different than Thurman as far as running style, body type, etc. I've always compared Freddy (and heard announcers subsequently make the same comparison) to Marcus Allen. Both are tall runners who play with good body lean, have great vision, always make the first tackler miss, generally run north-south but can turn the corner, always fall forward to finish runs, and are smooth gliders. Neither Freddy or Marcus have/had great speed but both can run away from defenders… have good football speed. The one thing Marcus did that Freddy doesn't do is that Driftwood used to vault very high over the line on short yardage and goal to go situations. This practice seems to be a dying art as LaDainian Tomlinson is the only RB in recent memory who goes airborne around the goal line. Again, not saying Freddy is as good as Marcus Allen, only that they have similar styles, the way they gallop in the open field, being excellent blockers, having the ability to catch the ball, the way they arc back on their cutbacks lunge through holes… Here's some Marcus Allen highlights for those who never saw him play. Oddly Marcus emulated OJ Simpson and has a bit of OJs wiggle to his game but is much more Fred Jackson than OJ Simpson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n36BMWSbsCI&feature=related Edited September 16, 2011 by San Jose Bills Fan
NewEra Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 TD was a one cut runner with breakaway speed. Jackson is a 4 cut, stiff arm, juke, spin move RB that doesn't stop moving his legs. I think td was a great player, and lots of his credit goes to having shanny, a great OL and blocking scheme, and elway. I think Fred would be a fixture In the pro bowl if he had similar talent around him. That saying, The only comparison I see between the two is that they were overlooked on draft day.
Endless Ike Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I like Fred and all, but no where near Davis. In the end, not Davis, but could play till much older barring serious injury. I think you're crazy. 4 more years of this? I just don't see it. He'll probably suffer an injury at some point that will just linger and that will be that. Just because he wasn't in the NFL, it's not like he wasn't playing football...he was still getting hit, and that's going to catch up with everyone eventually.
Just in Atlanta Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 No. Freddie isn't fast. He just finds ways to flow around, and sometimes through, defenders. He doesn't make mistakes. He's in a class of his own. He's smooth.
Thisistheyear Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) Freddie reminds me of Thurman. Like Thurm, Freddie runs with patience, has incredible balance, lacks breakaway speed (which terrell davis had) and makes quick lateral moves to set up blocks. So tell me Bills fans, is this guy Terrell Davis in the making? I'll read your stuff on Friday. Ummm, what? I really like Fred Jackson, but I don't see how he draws even the slightest comparison to TD... Fred Jackson is just finally getting his chance to start a full season, at the age of 30. He is a very good well rounded back, but I don't think any one considers him one of the best in the league. He runs tall, and he has a good combination of power, speed, and vision. He doesn't dominate in any of those categories however. TD was an explosive once in a generation kind of guy, who also happened to play for one of the best run designing coaches in the league. He was absolutely dominant until he knees failed him while he was still in his prime. No. Freddie isn't fast. He just finds ways to flow around, and sometimes through, defenders. He doesn't make mistakes. He's in a class of his own. He's smooth. +1, nice description. Freddie isn't slow either, but he doesn't run like CJ, or JC. He finds and gets to a hole quickly, then glides through. Somewhat unique. He probably won't break a ton of huge runs, but he's consistent, and can work with a lesser line like the Bills. He doesn't need huge holes. I've always compared Freddy (and heard announcers subsequently make the same comparison) to Marcus Allen. Much better comparison than TD
PromoTheRobot Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 He reminds me of the other Davis....Kenneth Davis of our own Buffalo Bills. I was thinking more like Thurman himself. PTR
JPicc2114 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 He runs like a slow Eric Dickerson.. same smooth running style
NoSaint Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I think you're crazy. 4 more years of this? I just don't see it. In fact there were years he played spring ball and showed up to camp still if I remember correctly. Not the same wear and tear but still noteworthy
Bump Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 He reminds me of Fred Taylor without the home run attribute.
