Mr_Blizzard Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 So everyone has a movie that they is a real downer. I think that Platoon, West Side Story, and The Day After are pretty depressing. What are your thoughts?
LeviF Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Requiem For A Dream Doctor Zhivago Ironweed
DrDawkinstein Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Requiem For A Dream Yep, every time we do this thread, thats my answer. Ive seen it once, and Ive never been able to watch it again.
Mark Vader Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Yep, every time we do this thread, thats my answer. Ive seen it once, and Ive never been able to watch it again. What's even more depressing is that Julia Roberts won the Oscar for Best Actress for "Erin Brockovich" over Ellen Burstyn.
Acantha Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 What's even more depressing is that Julia Roberts won the Oscar for Best Actress for "Erin Brockovich" over Ellen Burstyn. Speaking of Ellen Burstyn, just saw "Lovely, Still" not too long ago. Another great performance by her.
DC Tom Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 On The Beach. The Gregory Peck/Ava Gardner version.
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 (edited) Brokeback Mountain Anybody hear if they made the sequel yet? In the Back on the Mountain Any Jane Campion flick. My future blushing bride dragged me to see The Piano and later The Portrait of a Lady... With Portrait, we were literally the only ones in the theater. I came out more tormented after the movies Edited September 15, 2011 by ExiledInIllinois
Fezmid Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I'm going to have to vote for My Sister's Keeper: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078588/ I thought it was going to be a lame chick flick of some sort, but it was very well done and very depressing.

Wait a second, aren't "lame chick flicks" also almost always very depressing? See: Beaches. You got me on the well done part.
Buftex Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Great movie, but a real downer...people hate Jane Fonda, but she is a really amazing actress, and was in some fine movies...this one especially...the title just about says it all...

Great movie, but a real downer...people hate Jane Fonda, but she is a really amazing actress, and was in some fine movies...this one especially...the title just about says it all... Jane Fonda is a very talented actor. I love "The China Syndrome", mostly for Jack Lemmon, and I think "Barefoot in the Park" is a great comedy. As for the hate she gets, well she brought that on herself.

I liked Jane Fonda best in "On Golden Pond".
Metal Man Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I'll second Requiem For A Dream. Also for me Leaving Las Vegas is right there with it.
/dev/null Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Old Yeller That ending still makes me want to
The Poojer Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 i am gonna go with: Hi-Ho Hi-Ho, It's Up Your Arse We Go, starring the recently departed, badger eaten, gordon ramsey looking, Percy Foster
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Any recent, somewhat-dramatic Adam Sandler movie. I don't understad his deal with putting out super depressing movies lately (eg, reign over me, Click, even funny people).
HopsGuy Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I saw this version of "The Champ" when I was 8. I thought I was going to die of sadness.
