dave mcbride Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 When I saw him come off early with his arm hanging like that, I was thinking torn triceps. Obviously, he came back, but is there any word on the injury?
bladiebla Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 He himself said that he was fine on his twitter after the game: shawnemerriman Shawne Merriman RT @ThtGuyMatKaczor: @shawnemerriman hey buddy you okay!? #weneedyou #billieve (all good already preparing for the Raiders)
Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 When I saw him come off early with his arm hanging like that, I was thinking torn triceps. Obviously, he came back, but is there any word on the injury? He says he's OK - someone fell on it during a tackle. Speaking of which, I do disagree with the pundits who say "not a factor". True, he didn't rack up any flashy plays - no sacks, only one tackle. But every play I saw he was taking up bodies, sometimes 2 or 3 bodies, to the point where Edwards and Kelsey were able to have the most active day. So give it time - when other teams figure out that they can't just account for "lights out" or the rest of the Bills will romp around the backfield, if he can stay healthy, he'll have his day. I also thought Batten looked right at home out there.
Phlegm Alley Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Looked like a stinger. Merriman will be doing his signature "dance" in front of the home crowd after sacking a familiar opponent next week.
mrags Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 He was saving it all for the home opener where he sacks the raiders for 3 times and looks like his dominant self of a few hears ago. Mark it down, it was said here first.

Webster Guy Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 He said he was OK but I thought he looked very sluggish out there. Was glad to see they brought in Batten for awhile there. I think when they look at the game film they're going to start playing Merriman more sporadically, like a 3rd down specialist. I can't help but thinking the impact Moats would have had if he had started in Merrimans spot. I think he is going to find his way back into a pass rushing role and make an impact for us. Even if it's not Moats, and they plug in Batten or Carrington in Merriman's place, I'd rather see what one of these young guys could do in their second year. Guess I'm not sold on Merriman as a permanent piece of the team yet, despite his amazing preseason play. Was worried about LB Barnett too on that first long run by Charles over to his side and he was slow getting over there, but he seemed to get better as the day went on. Great coverage skills though, lookin' like a CB out there on a few plays. What a great win.
kdub Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Looked like a stinger. Merriman will be doing his signature "dance" in front of the home crowd after sacking a familiar opponent next week. That's what it looked like to me as well with how he was moving it when he came off.
Captain Hindsight Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 It was his first full game in nearly 3 years. He looked a bit rusty. But like others have said, they rolled away from him, he was double teamed. He drew attention. If Marcell and Kyle and Kesey and Carrington can get free because of that ill be pretty happy
eme123 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Im a little worried about Merriman's condition. I was thinking it may have been a separated shoulder or something. He looked like he was in a lot of pain when he came off the field. When he went back on the field i could see a big wrap around his arm sticking out from his pads. When he was playing the KC left tackle had his hand high up on Merriman's shoulder pads and Merriman was falling back w/ incredible ease almost like he was falling in pain. I could be wrong. It looked as though the Bills weren't doing much pass blitzing. The front 4 seemed like they were hanging back off the line of scrimmage, giving the runner a start, and moving into the gaps as opposed to a hard rush right at the snap.
Dorkington Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 He says he's fine and he got back on the field... No flashy plays, but he was always around the ball, and taking up a body or two. That's perfectly fine so far

They didnt run it up the middle too often. Bills defense played well. Merriman was around the ball all day. Dont worry we will get his. You know he aching for some.

BringBackFlutie Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 In my eyes, there were VERY few designed blitzes. I don't think they blitzed more than twice at the most. This is because they were trying to be prepared for the run (we over-pursued a LOT on the run in preseason when we blitzed) and depending on the front 3 to 4 players to give a little push on passing plays. Because our front 4 are so big now, it seemed like the 4-man rush was doing plenty to make plays for the secondary.

Sit back and play your base and let him miss his WRs or throw underneath. The guy doesn't belong as a starter.

That might have been due to the game itself.....no real reason to blitz when there's that big of a lead.

When he came backed taped up around his shoulder, he looked off. Maybe it was just a play or two. We'll see in coming weeks.
