The Poojer Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 this was exactly my thought...there had been so much emphasis on touchbacks, that I don't think teams are/were ready to be given runback chances...kick it a bit higher to give the defense time to get down there and not allow the returner to take a knee... Thought the exact same thing during the game. My guess is, you kick it light to the goal line, and your coverage team has a 5 yard head start from the same return spot last year. I think it makes sense. Worked today.
Doc Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Personally, if a team has a great KO returner, I'd kick for the TB. For a team with an average returner (a la KC), I'm kicking for the goal line.
