Sorry to bring this up, but I couldn't help but get upset when watching the Redskins-49ers game the other day...

In 1999, Tennessee converted a supposedly legal lateral because although Wycheck's feet&body were behind the point where he threw the ball, the ball left his hand in front of the line he was throwing to. According to the NFL, the point where the ball leaves your hand was all that mattered.

In that Redskins game Saturday, Shawn Taylor intercepted a pass, handed the ball off to another defender, and it was considered a forward lateral. How is this possible? If the key is where the ball leaves your hands and not where your feet/body are, then how can a handoff possibly be a forward pass? Bueller?

Just further proof that the NFL makes up the rules as they go along IMO.
