Doc Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I was just getting back to Cornell for my junior year when one my (new) roommates arrived and told us that SRV died, before it was even in the papers or on the news. He was an assistant stage manager at the venue (Alpine Valley in Wisconsin) SRV's helicopter exploded just after takeoff. He said they found a finger with his trademark ring on it in a tree. My roommate was named in the lawsuit intially, but they removed it because he was just a poor college kid.
stevewin Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) My wife's bday. I will never forget that day I came home, and my wife said "you are going to be sad, someone famous you really liked died" and for some reason I thought immediately of SRV. my next thought was - why him, why not motley Crüe... JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 So glad I got to see him perform as the opener for Robert Plant here in Rochester a few months before his demise. I agree that it really was a religious experience. He was so good, and Plant was so bad...

Drifter Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I was in my dorm room at UB when I heard it on the radio. He was one of my all time favorite musicians. Rest in peace SRV.
JLO Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 So glad I got to see him perform as the opener for Robert Plant here in Rochester a few months before his demise. I agree that it really was a religious experience. He was so good, and Plant was so bad... I was at that show also, but it was actually April, 1988
