TheBlackMamba Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 (edited) What are some the best pastry shops you all have ever been too? (Just had my first taste of DeRoberti's on Manhattans' Lower East Side and it was nothing short of phenomenal) Edited August 29, 2011 by TheBlackMamba
BarkLessWagMore Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I'll go with Andersen Bakery in Copenhagen Denmark. Outstanding pastries.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) I'll go with Andersen Bakery in Copenhagen Denmark. Outstanding pastries. I also say Danish bakery... Whenever we are in Burr Ridge, Illinois... We always stop in here: Kirsten's "Kirsten's Authentic Danish Products ... Rune, our Danish baker, has brought his own recipes straight from Denmark. With many imported ingredients, Rune specializes in many authentic Danish items such as Kringle, Seven Sisters, Authentic Danish Sweetrolls, Pumpernickel and other special Danish items." Also: Swedish: Pearson's: Homewood, Illinois Edited August 26, 2011 by ExiledInIllinois

Acantha Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Vaccaros in Balitmore is pretty damn good. Best canoli I've ever had (and everything else is great too).
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Not sure it's the best, but I have fond childhood memories of going to Pamela's Pastries in Fairport, NY, where I grew up. Any Rochestarians know if it's still there?? http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Pamelas.Pastry.Kitchen.585-223-3495

Dr. Fong Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Manganos Bakery...South Buffalo...Best donuts ,eclairs, breads..Sorrento Cheese squeezed them out of busines Any good ones in Buffalo these days? I'm making my first trip back in like 5 years and want to hit nothing but the best.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 (edited) Have you tried calling the phone number in your link? no; why would I? I haven't been back to Rochester in years. Edited August 29, 2011 by JR In Ann Arbor
LeviF Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 no; why would I? I haven't been back to Rochester in years. Maybe because that phone call would tell you whether or not it's still there.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Maybe because that phone call would tell you whether or not it's still there. I'm still puzzled. So, I should call up this number and ask, "are you still open? I don't live in Rochester, haven't visited in 10 years, and don't plan on buying anything from your shop, but was just curious if you are open." I was just curious if anyone here had gone to this place recently; I'm not interested enough to pick up the phone and call them as if they were a long-lost friend of mine.

I guess if that 30 seconds of your time is too valuable, it's not exactly worth it.
TheBlackMamba Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 The pastry shops in buffalo are really good (luigis, russ's, caramici's, dessert deli), but the few i went to in NYC were phenomenal. Also, Carlo's Bake Shop (cake boss) in Hoboken is not worth the 3 hour wait (just to get into the shop)!
birdog1960 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 always loved the bread at dicamillo's in niagara falls (and still order it occasionally for parties). very good pastries too. very interested in the news about carlo's - was it bad or just mediocre?

That place was a dump but made delicious italian cookies.
