RI Bills Fan Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 ...that started me thinking. Apparently it's a common practice in the NFL to structure player contracts so that a team is only required to pay players with so called "split contracts" somewhere around 1/2 of their salary if they are placed on IR. Individual contracts vary so not all players have split contracts. IMHO that could help to explain why so many Bills Players have wound up on IR in the past few years. What say you guys?
Cash Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Not sure how that adds up to savings for the Bills. Because every time you put a guy on IR, you sign a new guy to replace him. The Bills haven't carried <53 players during the season at all, so putting guys on IR would cost money UNLESS you put high-salaried guys on IR and sign minimum-salary guys to replace them. Which hasn't been the case, as far as I recall.
Sisyphean Bills Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 The Bills in the 0-for-the-70s had a bit of a "club" reputation where some players were accused of working the system to be placed on IR rather than practice or play through their dings and dents.
