Jacksonville has one of the most pathetic offenses in the league. Houston is no longer a pushover and Oakland is playing great lately. I think they lose one of the next two if not BOTH. They have a lot of young players in the playoff chase for the first time. I don't see them winning out.

I think the Bills have a good shot at getting in. I think Denver loses to the Titans this weekend and I think Baltimore loses as well. Jacksonville then becomes the only team standing in the way of the playoffs.

Both Houston (at a very cold Chicago) and Oakland won convincingly yesterday. So I wouldn´t rule out the chance they might surprise Jacksonville. But the Jaguars´ final two games are against losing squads - Buffalo, Denver and Baltimore will play at least one team with a winning record. Although I don´t think Pittsburgh is beating us at the Ralph anyway.

Well it doesn't matter what teams we play, we have no choice but to win. Same with Denver.

I have a feeling the NFL playoff teams are glad we might not get in, we are playing the best of any of the teams that are fighting to get in now.

I think the reason I hold out little hope for Jax losing a game is exactly the same one that explains why I think the Bills will win out (assuming they still have something to play for on 1/2/05). Just like the Bills, the Jags have been playing very well as of late. Their defense is taking the ball away, and their offense is playing MUCH better than it did earlier this year. The similarities to this Bills team are many. Plus, Houston and Oakland have nothing to play for, and aren't really big rivals of the Jags (like the Chiefs were to Denver).

I really hope one of those two (HOU/OAK) can shock me, as I am still hoping (despite what other threads here have accused me of). However, I think it's actually more likely that the Jets lose their last two than it is for the Jags to slip up. That would accomplish the same thing, but I still think the chance of either is remote.

What we need this week in the NFC is Seattle to lose and St. Louis to win. That ensures the Rams play hard in week 17 against NY. NE should beat NY this coming week which sets up the game with St. Louis in Week 17.

Since the Rams own the tiebreaker over Seattle, you only need a Rams win over Philly next Monday night - which should happen since the Eagles have the #1 seed locked up. That ensures St. Louis will be playing for something in week 17 because the Rams-Jets game is a 1:00 start; and they will not yet know the outcome of Seattle's final game.

I agree with all you said, BF, but I don´t believe even a hard-playing St. Louis team will be capable to defeat the Jets. They just managed to get destroyed by lowly Arizona yesterday. Fact is, all NFC West teams are horrible.

I think that would certainly help...Though the way the NFC is, the Rams may clinch a playoff spot by winning just one more. The way they played yesterday, I doubt they'll "play hard" for more.

They are pitiful, that's for sure.

I bet Arizona is kicking themslves, hell if they beat the 49er's instead of getting swept they would be in the playoff hunt

I don't think the Pats, Colts, or Chargers are all that worried about the Bills in the playoffs. While we are on a very impressive late season run, it has been against soft or suspect teams. We still have many of the weaknesses we've had all season, and quality teams will exploit them the way the Pats did. When I saw Freeney burning Ogden at will last night, I had images of Bledsoe on his back at least 6 times were the Bills to play the Colts in the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong, and I'd love to see the Bills make the playoffs just to get the experience again, but I think a playoff game against Indy could be pretty embarrasing.

CBS Sportsline did an article on that the week before they lost to the 49ers. Arizona would have been playing Seattle this week for the division lead, since the Cards beat the Hawks earlier this year.

The Texans are 6-8. There isn't a whole lot of difference a lot of times between an 8-6 and a 6-8 team. Jacksonville won a game against us they should not have, one against Denver they shouldn't have, and one against Tennessee that they shouldn't have.

They could easily be 5-9.

What scares me about Jacksonville is the same reason that the Bills are on their roll right now...they just have that *look* of a team that will make the playoffs. They're doing whatever it takes. Yes, they're a young team that may not have been there before, but they've got a bunch of players that believe. Leftwich won't put up gaudy numbers, but he'll gut it out for you...that's all the players need to see in a leader.

I honestly didn't think they'd go into Lambeau and pull it off, but the Packers didn't exactly play with a lot of heart, either.

Having said all that, the way the NFL seems to go these days, it won't surprise me if Houston or Oakland pull off the upset. Jacksonville will win at least one of those two. If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Houston right now.

If they only knocked the ball down.....

I agree, and don't like the tone of the post you responded to (seems to be a lot of that going around,) but I think the difference is motivation. That Jax crowd is going to be crazy on Sunday. I spent some time this week reading their board (since the Jax/GB game scared me more than any of the others) and they are going through the same process we are. Some even traveled to GB to see the game. They believe, and will come out in force Sunday to help their team. Houston will do what they can, but I just can't see them going into Jax and beating a Jag team that is playing with the same confidence Buffalo is.

A likely scenario for week 17 is this:

1) Bills need to beat PIT.

2) Jets need to lose at Rams, OR Jags must lose at Raiders.

We'll be hoping, but it won't be likely.

dude... Jax is gonna win out... period!!! Houston and Oakland are pathetic and neither can play with Jax when there's money on the table.
