Beerball Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 There is alot of coach bashing going on Where? Other than in this thread that you started.
thebandit27 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I know, brilliant coaching taking a team with Irvin, Aikman deion woodson and Emmitt to the playoffs. they were only 8-8 in 99 too. he was 18-14 there. I get your point, but lets not pretend it was coaching genius. His roster was significantly better than the one he has now. By the second half of this sentence, I'm not so sure you do get my point. I never even came close to calling it coaching genius. All I did was refute the completely incorrect statement that he's done nothing but lose. That was the point.
Billsrhody Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think its hard to deny that this team has a much higher ceiling than it did when Jauron was at the helm. Gailey has shown the ability to get production out of his offensive players and thats what is going to ultimately win games in the NFL today. Of course we need a respectable defense to go along with that, but with another draft like the one we just had I think we'll be in great shape to make a push for the playoffs.
PromoTheRobot Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Don't forget he's old too! And we will never win until he's dead, so let's hope for a miracle and let Ralph die. Ralph dies = buh bye Bills. Yes, let's hope for that, you ghoul. PTR
K-9 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Don't forget he's old too! And we will never win until he's dead, so let's hope for a miracle and let Ralph die. Didn't think the bar of douchebaggery could be set any lower. Congratulations. GO BILLS!!!
yungmack Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think when we see a guy like Mike Nolan take a defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and turn it around in one year, we see what a good coach can do. We saw what Gaily did with similar pieces that Jauron had...except he did something with them. In the words of Jim Mora Sr., "Edwards didn't do diddly-poo." Edwards didn't just take over a 4-3 team, he took over a Tampa Two team. By definition, that's light, fast guys. And even at that, they weren't all that good as a T-2 defense. Then the usual Bills injury bug hit. Nolan at least had players who fit the scheme. Edwards will be fine. He's now got a bunch of big, fast guys who seem to be able to play both 3-4 and 4-3. With a smashing D line and backers who can penetrate and set the edge, they should be disrupting offenses on a steady basis. Do that, and your secondary suddenly becomes stellar. Take away the pass and take away the run, and what does that leave the offense? Now, I don't think the Bills are yet ready to become the top D in the league, but even a 25% improvement will help the won-loss record immensely.
reddogblitz Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 DJ had 4 years to build a 7-9 team. The year before DJ was coach, the Bills went 5-11. DJ's first year here the Bills went 7-9. He built (the first) 7-9 team in 1 year. He is at least better than Mularkey or Jauron lol. And what makes him better exactly? DJ was able to get the team to 7-9 and Mularkey was at the helm when we had our last winning season 9-7 in 2004. Sure Coach Gailey seems like a nice guy and give great interviews. I especially like the line "It's a tough game for tough people". But coaching in the NFL is all about results. So far we don't have any. I'll give credit when we do. Hopefully that will be this year. Go BILLS !!
Defend Greece Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Where? Other than in this thread that you started. Really?
clancynut Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) Ralph dies = buh bye Bills. Yes, let's hope for that, you ghoul. PTR That's my biggest fear. Plus it is concerning that Ralph was not present at one of the most important owners meeting ever. Also his wife was at the HOF announcing his donation today. Also Galley was the best coach who was willing to come here and the offense has demonstrated improvement. As far as the defensive goes, I think that Nix has given Edwards the tools for the job. If there is no improvement this year, Wannstedt is your new Defensive Coordinator in 2012. Edited August 5, 2011 by clancynut
Defend Greece Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Why would people want Ralph to die? What's wrong with you?
Wagon Circler Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I predicted pretty early on that we'd end up going with edwards as a DC. I think people really need to give the guy a little break. He's here to turn a VERY small and undersized tampa 2 4-3 into a pittsburgh style 3-4? This isn't mike nolan with some actual pieces in place. This is a much different transition. With the pieces in place you will notice a difference this year. Also - everyone gets hung up on the Stache being a 4-3 guy. Listen, scheme is one part of defense but tackling, hitting, shedding blockers, its all the same. He will make them better in this area and contribute with some scheme stuff for our hybrid moments. George Edwards is a very good coach. Anyone asked to run the defense of the premiere SEC team (at the time UF was), it's a pretty dang high honor. give it more than 16 games. Last in the league in run defense no pass rush, no turnovers, eight 200 yd rushing games allowed. I saw nothing last year to make me believe this guy has a effin clue. I thought he was an awful hire at the time and nothing happened to make me believe otherwise. Wannstedt was a good hire but apparently he will not be allowed to run his preferred defense. Let's see what another year brings. Our run D last year demanded we put nine in the box on first down and sell out against the run. He refused to do it.

I wanted him out of town on the next Bus in January. He should be flipping burgers somewhere or coaching in high school.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 There is alot of coach bashing going on… I Billieve this regime will be winners and we can all get back to bashing Brady. Where? Other than in this thread that you started. Really? Beerball, I love you and even respect you But Defend Greece is a staunch Bills fan and supporter of most of the aspects of the team including Gailey. And there is LOTS of Gailey bashing that happens all over this board. And to his credit, DG didn't go crazy (and he IS temperamental at times) in spite of your unfair comment towards him. I hate to have to step in and play referee but I feel compelled to. And while I'm playing referee…eball made this comment to billsfreak Jesus, you are the king of hyperbole, aren't you? There are no "slivers of hope" at ALL? Really? Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Ralph is cheap. To which, mrags, who is a longtime season ticket holder and staunch Bills fan added for humorous effect: Don't forget he's old too! And we will never win until he's dead, so let's hope for a miracle and let Ralph die. The joke fell flat but no harm was meant by the comment. I noticed there's a lotta friendly fire around here today. I've been a bit snarky too lately and have to apologize to those posters I've recently criticized (Dick Drawn, billsfreak, Harvey lives). Guess everyone's getting amped up for next week's preseason opener.
