Seems legit.... even though it's from 1979 and assumes other intelligent life will look exactly like humans.....

Try reading objectively and without wishful thinking.

I listened to a great podcast last night...Joe Rogan with Avi Loeb, an astronomer/physicist from Harvard.

He suggests that Oumuamua, the object that passed by Earth in 2017 may be a technological creation from another civilization.

If he suggested that, he is an unmitigated loon.

Let's get moving on 'padding' this thread.  The 'stadium naming rights' thread over in TSW is gaining on it...😳

All the crazy has turned away from the sky and onto politics... Not as many UFO sightings anymore.

Mars rover set to land within an hour. Searching an ancient lake bed for signs of life from Mars distant past

If they find microbial life or evidence thereof, it would be awesome.  It would also not move the needle on evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe because the math says there is none.

As with some math calculations, mistakes are made. The assumption from Drake was incorrect

We start with recent research showing that one in six stars hosts a planet hospitable to life. No, not one in a million. One in six. So let's take that number and run with it. Next we have to make a few assumptions. In particular, if you were given a million Earth-size worlds, what fraction do you think would ever beget technically sophisticated inhabitants?

By this rough and ready calculation, the nearest aliens are probably between one and two thousand light-years away. In other words, no closer than the three bright stars of Orion's Belt. Sure, alien neighbors might be farther — or closer. But this order-of-magnitude estimate tells us that they're not next door. They haven't heard our news reports, and they're not likely to have any incentive to visit. They simply don't know we're here.
