DC Tom
Uncle Josef didn't discriminate. Nor did Chairman Mao, as far as I know. But to some degree Der Fuehrer did...and don't forget that there's a LOT of smaller incidents throughout the century - e.g. the Armenian genocide, which is arguably religion-based. Which brings up another point, how do you "blame" strictly religion? Is the Serbo-Croation war an ethnic conflict between Serbs and Croats, or a religious war between Muslims and Christians (or both?)

Gene Frenkle
I'd reckon that in the last century atheists killed more people than religious zealots in the Western world. Way to qualify the **** out of that one!

Joe Miner
What's the difference between a cult and a religion? A cult is the section of your non-religion religion that passes around poisonous snakes to prove there is no God. You're already familiar with religion. You preach it here all the time. You're already familiar with religion. You preach it here all the time. For a Christian, you seem to have a lot of hate and insecurity. When you get past that, we can talk about this like two rational human beings. Generally, cults won't let you leave. A cult usually makes you break off all contact with non-indoctrinated family members and friends. The number of followers That has more to do with it than anything I think. Once you reach a certain threshold, the hallmark cult-like qualities probably fade away.
....lybob
The number of followers I don't know the Moonies got like a million+ and they seem like a cult would they seem less cult like if they had 10mil or 100mil or just a bigger cult

Yeah, but if I used THAT argument, some asshat here was going to start arguing "Islam won't let you associate with Christians or Jews, it's a cult not a real religion!!!", and then I'd have to kill them... When you get past that, we can talk about this like two rational human beings. You flatter yourself. You seem to have been screwed up on the topic of religion at an early age. I'd be surprised if you were ever able to achieve a rational mindset on religion.

Not surprising. One of the board's biggest bigots has quite a high opinion of himself. It's other people with the issues. Not Gene. Never Gene. Much easier to hate religious folks when you've already decided they're always wrong.

I don't hate you or anybody I can think of really. Is a Christ-like agnostic/atheist better than a Christ-like Christian because of the absence of the fear of Hell? Than a non-Christ-like Christian? ....lybob
A better person, more morally-pure, more deserving of a favorable "final reward". Could also have been phrased: "Is it better to be..." Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
