Rugby World Cup 2011

Recommended Posts

As I'm sure all of you know, New Zealand will be hosting the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

(insert crickets chirping)

Anywho... It's a HUGE deal down here and I was just wondering how many "American Football" fans would be watching.

Are any of you going to be paying attention to the games?

For what it's worth, I'll be taking my son to the three games that our town (Nelson) is hosting during the tourney.

Italy vs Russia

Italy vs USA

Australia vs Russia

GO ALL BLACKS!

YES! If my cable company carries it, Ill be watching! (Played 4 years through college, 97-01)

The All Blacks are my favorite team. Even did a project on Jonah Lomu for a web design class.

I havent followed International play in a few years though so Im not sure who is favored and who I should be watching. Any insight is appreciated!

Side story: When I was bumming around Italy back in '02, I ran into a group of people from Wales at dinner one night and started chatting them up. Turned out they were in town for a rugby match the next day. I ended up meeting up with them and got to see Wales vs Italy as a "true fan". What a great time! (And the game was great too, lol)

Nice!

Good story.

Where did you play Rugby?

The club team at Colorado State tried to convince me to join up when I went there in the early '90's. I didn't know a thing about rugby back then, but now that I live in NZ, I sure wish I would've given it a go. It's a helluva great sport and EVERYONE down here is a rabid fan of the ABs.

That being said, NZ is the current favourite to win the cup, but you never know, especially when you consider the Aussies and S Africa.

I did a quick search and saw the NBC and "Universal Sports" will be broadcasting the matches up in the states.

No idea what Universal Sports is, but I'll keep an eye out for the NBC coverage...would much rather watch some rugby than be stuck with baseball

Hey the Tri Nations comes first!! Can't wait to watch you guys on those epic battles against Springbooks and Aussies. I just hope our Pumas can measure up against the elite in the next Four Nations, that will be awesome for our rugby.

I hope, with what happened with Christchurch and how you guys feel and live rugby, you can win the Cup at home.

GO PUMAS!!

Played at Fredonia, Fullback. I think Colorado is the biggest rugby state, we had a couple of players from Colorado that played for their high schools!

Universal Sports is Universal which used to be USA Networks. Channel 870 in the city on Comcast (sorry if thats a dirty word, ha!)

For the opening game of the Tri-Nations, the Aussies sure beat the crap out of South Africa last night. (it should be mentioned that S Africa isn't playing most of their starters this year, for fear of injuries before the world cup.)

Go All Blacks!

Thanks for the link, Jack. I LOVE the haka.

It just about made me puke when I learned that those a-holes at BYU started doing it too. Totally insulting.

Last night, New Zealand crushed the Aussies 30 - 14.

Great game.

Go All Blacks!

Hate to admit but since I live in Australia, I have to go for the Wallabies and of course the USA Eagles. Was a good showing by NZ but they will CHOKE as usual in the world Cup

Watched half the game before I had to go to an NRL game here in Sydney.

I've got 6 games to go for 50 at my local A-grade club but at 42 I'm getting a bit a old to be running around with the guys.

She's looking to offload this, I don't know how much. Contact me and I will get you in touch with her. Way too late in the game for me to go.

Thanks for the offer, but we're already set. We're going to all 3 games that they're playing here in Nelson, and that's more than enough for me. $$$

Tues Sept 20 Italy v Russia

Tues Sept 27 Italy v USA

Sat Oct 1 Australia v Russia

I took my son to the Italy vs Russia game last night. Great time.

The game certainly could've been tighter but it was still a great vibe in town and in the stadium.

In a couple days, the USA team rolls into town to face Italy next week. It should be a much better game.

Go All Blacks!
