I know there are many people who love "John Carpenter's The Thing", well here is the first trailer to the all new re-make of "The Thing", scheduled for October.

Also the first teaser trailer for "John Carter", which is Disney/Pixar's first venture into live-action film-making. Scheduled for March.

Looks pretty good. The Carpenter version will be hard to live up to. I was kinda hoping for a sequel but this looks like it has potential.

Just a few weeks back I saw 'The Thing' again after many years and it still looks good. I have no idea why it needed a remake.

I had a chance to see "The Thing" last night on my Dish Direct but decided to

stick with watching those Texas Rangers of mine. I hope they will show it

again in a few days.

You think they remake movies because they "need" to be remade?

Very true. I think one situation where a remake is warranted is for very old sci fi movies. If handled well, the new technology with original story can make for compelling viewing. Then again, there is 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' where that concept can still be botched...

Like you said, I think they even tend to screw those up as well, much like Clash of the Titans. IMO, a big part of the charm of the original movie was the crappy technology!

I do think that a remake like this is a bad idea though. The people that will be interested in seeing a movie like this are the same people that like the original and will already have a bias against the new one. It happens over and over. I guess the point is that the name alone can bring in a profit, even if small, so it's a win for the studio. Meanwhile the fans can keep complaining about remakes that they flock to.

Personally, I very rarely go to the theater so I don't feel "ripped off", and I'm a lot more forgiving than most fans. I can enjoy a relatively bad movie as long as I'm not expecting it to be great, so I'll probably enjoy this one enough to justify the Netflix delivery.
