Mary Ann Sarama-Luce

 

CORFU — Mary Ann Sarama-Luce, 73, of Corfu died Sunday (July 17, 2011) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

 

She was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Buffalo, daughter of the late Stanley and Florence (Szymanski) Trzaska.

 

Mary Ann is well-known in the harness horse racing community as an accomplished driver, trainer, and owner. She had a lifelong passion for the industry, being one of the area’s first women drivers having been a part of Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway since 1968 and was a member of the Western New York Harness Horseman’s Association. She took pride in her Polish heritage and loved and prepared Polish food. She was a lover of nature, animals, cooking and baking.

 

She is survived by her loving husband of over 20 years Richard “Dick” Luce of Corfu; her children Daniel (Jaqueline) Surdyk of Spencerport; Carl (Michelle Roberts) Surdyk of Boston, N.Y.; Lynette (Gregory) McGiveron of Basom and Scott (Deborah) Sarama of Elkridge, Mass.; three brothers, Stanley (Joni) Trzaska of Lancaster; Raymond (Sylvia) Trzaska of West Seneca and Gerald (Deb) Trzaska of Getzville; 10 grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel LLC, 4120 West Main Street Rd., Batavia, NY 14020, where prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Thursday followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximillian Kolbe Parish (East Pembroke Site). Burial will be in St. Adalbert’s in Lancaster. Memorials in Mary Ann’s memory are suggested to Genesee Cancer Assistance Inc., 16 Bank St., Batavia, NY 14020. Condolences to you and your family. I'm sure your mother was comforted with you and your sister at her bedside. You will be in my prayers.
