Mortenson reported yesterday that the players don't want Training Camp or pres-season games and may well try to delay ratifying a new deal until there's just enough time to get together to prep for the season..

Just thought I'd add this. If there's any truth to this, there may not be any open practice

That's not a surprise but I'd think they'd want to have some sort of FA signing period before prep time for the season.

No pre-season games I understand but no training camp? That's suicide. Players have to get into game shape. No camp = lots of injuries.

I normally try to make it up for a game every year, usually around Christman or Thanksgiving. I will tell you though, back in the summer of 2007, my mom had a stroke, so I went up to Buffalo to visit with her. It just happened to be the same week that training camp opened. I went to the first practice of camp, and I had a blast...probably more fun than I did at the last few games I went to. We got to meet a bunch of the players, including the whole rookie class (minus Marshawn, who wasn't in camp yet) and tons of autographs. It was really fun. My nephews, who I have always had to sort of badger into becoming sports fans, became Bills fans that day. I hadn't been to a training camp since I was about 14 or 15, so it was almost 30 years ago. And, back then, it wasn't as fan friendly as what they do in Rochester. Great time...it would be a shame if they didn't have a training camp. I have been to a handful of Cowboys training camps, back in the 90's when they were still good, as well as Falcons camps...they didn't compare to the Rochester experiencs, IMO. Of course, I hate the Cowboys, and am sort of ambivalent about the Falcons!

That may be so but the preseason generates revenues of approximately $800 million.

That's a hell of a lot of money to not receive a percentage of. At 50% of revenues and 2000 players, that's about $200,000 per player.

It's also about $12.5 million per team as far as the owner's take is concerned… not all of that profit of course but still a hell of a lot of money.

There are reports that there's a lot of urgency in talks right now because most of those involved don't want to forfeit too much money from the cash cow that is preseason football.
