billsfan89 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Last year the Bills signed Kellen Heard off of the Raiders practice squad. He is still on the team presumably under the PS. The guy is 6 foot 6 and 355 pounds and there was a lot of talk about him coming into the season. Does anyone else think this guy can become something or is he just another Lonnie Harvey?
Astrobot Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Kellen Heard, undrafted in 2010, has talent. He played on both sides of the ball for Memphis. He was a project on the O-Line but a very talented DT. He has a mean streak. http://www.gotigersgo.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/heard_kellen00.html Kellen Heard was ejected from a game for a vicious blindside block on McCoy in 2006. The Hit: He's 6-6, 355.

He had to have finished the year on the active roster in order for the Bills to have signed him from the Raiders PS. I assume he's better than Lonnie Harvey and will be competing with Jasper & Spencer Johnson for a roster spot.

Correction I just looked it up he was cut by the Raiders and signed to the Bills Practice Squad.
Nanker Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Wonder when these fine young men will get tired of buying their own groceries.
Ghost of Rob Johnson Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Correction I just looked it up he was cut by the Raiders and signed to the Bills Practice Squad. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/14427502/bills-sign-heard-off-raiders-practice-squad-waive-williams ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills have signed hulking defensive tackle Kellen Heard off of the Oakland Raiders' practice squad. Listed at 6-feet-6 and 355 pounds, Heard initially signed with the Raiders last spring as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Memphis. He also spent part of his college career at Texas A&M. To make room for Heard, the Bills waived linebacker Thomas Williams.
bigdogtim Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 They referred to him as "hulking." Sure hope MArcel doesn't take exception to that, but if he does, that is one scrap I would pay to see.
High Mark Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Ok, so to solve our run D problems and get bigger up front, we put Dareus (6’3’’ 320lbs) at DE, Heard (6’6’’ 355lbs) at the other DE spot, and Jasper (6’5’’ 400lbs) at NG. That allows us to move KW to ILB (6’1’’ 305lbs) and Maybin to SS (6’4’’ 195lbs). Problems solved.

Pirate Angel Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) What position was he playing on the practice squad OL or DT?? If he was showing promise at DT It is doubtful we would have taken another project with Jasper. Now has his footwork improved enough to provide u some much needed depth at the tackle position? or is he being projected to be a mauler at one of the guard positions? We are pretty solid on the interior of our line but if we canfind a diamond in the rough and have an a** kicker on the outside now that would be huge. Edited June 5, 2011 by pmr78

Scrappy Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I heard that Wegmans has a job opening he'll be filling, until further notice.

Wasn't thinking about Williams at LB but seems like he struggles to stay at 305 so a drop to 275 seems plausible and with his sideline to sideline ability it might work (really don't think so but would like to see if it works then we would have our own Levon Kirkland)

According to one article quoting the Stillers LB coach, it takes the Stillers 3-4 years to train up a reliable linebacker. It took Williams 4 years to break through from 5th round draft choice to Probowl NT. LB and DL are not little "FRU" interchangeable roster slots.
