As much as I like seeing the Dems take a hit, this whole thing is bull ****. So dude texted some rooster shots. Big fuggin deal. I understand the expectation that all seats of congress be filled with the asses of boyscouts, but given the fact that we are forced to live in reality, just maybe we should take a little more level headed approach to these mediocre scandals and maybe simmer down on all the forced outrage?

Two things:

1) Call me old fashioned, but I still think the tiny handful of people who are given the enormous responsibility/power to make decisions for 320MM of us need to be held to a standard of conduct that is a little higher than the average scumbag. I think it's sad that so many have virtually no expectations of any standard of conduct for elected officials. The result is that worse and worse behavior is tolerated until you end up with criminals like Charlie Rangal still in the House. And let's be honest about Weiner (and Lee) -- the ONLY reason they left office is because their party leadership is worried about appearances in advance of the 2012 elections.

2) Since virtually every long serving member of Congress is an arrogant, corrupt, entitled scumbag and since they will never address the crying need for term limits in Congress, dislodging these guys has become next to impossible. Therefore, until such a time as we can restrict Congressmen to 4-6 years of total service, I am more than happy to use tawdry scandal as a means to boot these dirt-bags out one by one.

Maybe I shouldn't enjoy watching an entitled prick like Weiner burn his own house down with his stupidity, but I do.

Text 'rooster shots' while at work and see where that gets you.

I love this new "excuse" by the left...that Weiner is caught up in the "new puritanism that the evil Republicans and teabaggers are foisting on us all."

bull ****.

Youre a sitting congressman...a powerful one.....and one that was very much an up and coming mouthpiece of the Democratic Party. You were sending naked pictures of yourself out at random to single women, some underage, another a porn star.THEN he lied about it and coached others to do the same.

Its was creepy, deviant, deceptive and borderline illegal. Its behavior that would get anyone fired from their job, unless you work for Hustler or something. And dont say "he wasnt on Company time" Hes an elected US government official. Hes "working" 24/7. He's NEVER NOT representining the US Government. Ever. ****...thats his JOB TITLE. Come on.

A "mediocre scandal" would be him stepping out on his wife with a co-worker and getting caught. And if that happened and he didnt lie about it, this would be a non issue. But on the "scandal" scale, this is AT LEAST an 8 out of a 10. At minimum.

The "level headed" thing is for him to go.

Nice post, KD

Hoping that the best and the brightest serve as our elected officials wont happen, and it hasnt happened for about 40 years give or take. Most of them are just common criminals. Both side of the aisle.

I agree. It says as much about human nature as it does about politicians.

I read an article the other day, and damnit if I cant find it now. To sum it up, it said that woman are far more better elected officials than men because they run for a passion of three or four issues they feel strongly about. Where as men, run for elected office for more of a carreer than a passion for specific issues.

I'll keep looking for it, sorry.............

Fargin A!!. Found it.

http://www.nytimes.c...women.html?_r=2

"The shorthand of it is that women run for office to do something, and men run for office to be somebody," said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. "Women run because there is some public issue that they care about, some change they want to make, some issue that is a priority for them, and men tend to run for office because they see this as a career path."

Studies show that women are less likely to run for office; it is more difficult to recruit them, even when they have the same professional and educational qualifications as men. Men who run for office tend to look at people already elected "and say, 'I'm as good as that,' " said Jennifer Lawless, director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University here. "Women hold themselves up to this hypothetical standard no candidate has ever achieved."

Call me Ishmael, but "old-fashioned" values should be tempered by recognition that pretty much the only thing that separates Weiner's behavior from Franklin's or Jefferson's is twitter.

Probably. Dont know. I just thought what I highlighted was interesting. You?

I would never argue the point that men and women are motivated by different things.

And that stupid little thing that adding 225 some off years of media advancements and twitter to the equasion means Weiner compromised the integrity of the office in real time and what Franklin and Jefferson did were at the time, at best, rumors.

SLIGHT difference between rumors and hearsay about being a womanizer and every citizen from LA to Maine seeing an up close picture of your dick.
