Wacka
Looks like a new water tunnel for hydro power on the Canadian side.

UConn James
Yeah, its purpose was kind of missing from the story. But who cares about the whys of anything, right? Modern journalism = . ExiledInIllinois
So they can divert water around the Falls. Not so-serious question... Why do we need water spilling over the falls anyway? Just brick the thing up (the Falls) and treat it like the emergency spillway at Hoover Dam... They can thus control the elevations of Lake Erie... Build another dam at Detroit and they can isolate the elevations of Lake Huron and Michigan... Then they can generate all the power they want without all that "wasted" water going over the spillway/Falls... AND the big thing: The Falls will never erode away! Of course I jest... I jest... Who needs tourists gawking at water flowing over a precipice! Anyway.. Like Wacka said... How come they are allowed to divert water?... Putting that new tunnel into service, won't that lower water flow over the Falls? Yeah, its purpose was kind of missing from the story. But who cares about the whys of anything, right? Modern journalism = . (Well, more-so than traditional, at least....) It was in there: "green energy." That is hydropower production. They do assume this and didn't really spell it out. I suppose it is a touchy subject in today's politcal climate.
