Turbosrrgood Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I remember a few people suggesting Chad Johnson should be considered as a FA (Something I definitely don't agree with). I saw this clip, sorry but I just could never root for this guy...Even if he was good (which he's not). http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Chad-Ochocinco-falls-off-the-bull-gets-10k-any?urn=nfl-wp2033

Why cant you root for the guy? (also, I would never consider bringing him to the Bills. We simply dont need him.)
DC Grid Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I don't mind the guy, he's a lot like TO. But I agree with DrD, an aging WR really isn't what the Bills need. They need to work on developing their young talent like Easily, Jones, and D. Nelson, to create a corp around Stevie J for the furture.

BuffaloBill Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I would not want him as a WR but I give him credit for doing this on behalf of charity.
Turbosrrgood Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) Actually I have to say, he is a decent guy compared to other WR's. I just can't stand the over dramatic, excessive, ridiculous celebrations, even when the team is down 30 points. I watch football for football, not clowns. I'd probably like him if he teamed up with Steve-o and did some Jackass clips though. I laughed pretty hard at the clip, he fell off before he got out of the gate. I guess I give him props for trying... Edited May 16, 2011 by Turbosrrgood

He just took a risk most people wouldn't have the balls to take by getting on that beast to help charity. What is wrong with that? I don't want him here in Buffalo because it will slow the development of our young prospects, and now is the time to develop those young prospects as we rebuild. But, why should anyone slam him for raising money for charity? Edited May 16, 2011 by Alphadawg7
DrDawkinstein Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Doesn't tkae himself seriously?? You must be joking! You left out "family man". He most certainly doesnt. All of his act is good natured and not arrogant. Sure there is some level of self-promotion, but thats the act. He's out there making us laugh and having us laugh at him, and he's laughing along with us. Id say TO takes himself way more seriously, and Randy Moss... dont even get me started. When its all said and done, Chad comes across as a "good guy". To the point that he is off-field friends with Commissioner Goodell. Actually I have to say, he is a decent guy compared to other WR's. I just can't stand the over dramatic, excessive, ridiculous celebrations, even when the team is down 30 points. I watch football for football, not clowns. But, why should anyone slam him for raising money for charity? I am not slamming him for the specific act, although I understand that my OP kind of suggests that. He is a decent guy, but I think he is an over-rated football player and don't enjoy his kind of ego's on the football field. He was doing it for charity, great. But more import to him was keeping himself in the spotlight, that's what I don't like. My main point was actually that I don't like him as a football player. But I thought the clip was funny too..
San Jose Bills Fan Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 On the grand scale of Diva Wide Receivers, Chad is by far the most fun, irreverent, and likable in my opinion. He's never gotten into trouble with the law. He's been a great football player for the most part. For much of his career he was willing to go over the middle and absorb punishment to make the catch…unlike many of his Diva… Brethren. Yes, he's a big immature and a bit egocentric but it's all harmless stuff. Do I want him on the Bills? No… just as I wouldn't want any number of aging veterans getting in the way of developing some of our younger players. His age (33) is what makes him unattractive to me…just as guys like Kevin Boss (27) and Zach Miller (25) are attractive because of their age. Younger guys can grow with a rebuilding team.

Good points, and his age (and associated drop off in play) are the main reasons I don't like him as a football player. Yes, he's a big immature and a bit egocentric but it's all harmless stuff. He's always been a love him or hate him guy. Either you enjoy his "antics" as entertainment, or despise them for making a mockery of the game.

I am entertained (by football players anyway) by great play and great plays. As Chad has fewer and fewer of those, he is left only with these desperate self-promoting gags (soccer, bull-riding, dancing on TV). I would rather watch Moss play any day (or Larry Fitz, etc..) than to have to wait around for the "OC" to come through with a decent play--and then have to pay for the pleasure by enduring the lame "celebration" that is sure to follow every such catch. Never understand why anyone finds that tired act "entertaining".

You need to lighten up, dude.

Chad realizes that he's on the downside of his career, it's harder to make those great plays at 33 than it is at 26 or 27. To keep attention on himself and avoid being labeled as old and washed up, he goes off and rides a bull, or tries out for a soccer team. If nothing else, he's being smart with his career and keeping himself relevant for an extra couple years.
DreReed83 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) The dude never drinks. Don't do drugs. Is completely clean. Doesn't use performance enhancing drugs really. Never causes trouble outside the football field. But he likes to celebrate in the endzone. GOD FORBID !!!!!! Get real people Edited May 16, 2011 by DreReed83

Yeah, the Icky Shuffle was kind of funny the first 2 times. I think you understand what I'm saying. I like comedy when it's funny or absurd things when they are funny--I'm a funny guy! I just don't think these contrived and stale "shows" by athletes are funny. You do. But to conclude that I'm "grim" because I think OC's act is lame? Wow--the bar for entertaining you is simply on the ground for anyone to step over. Break out the "get your popcorn ready!" T-shirt and "SuperBowl Shuffle video tape.

BTW, my comment about you being a grim and humorless person is based on the hundreds if not thousands of your posts that I have read over the past few years. Your humorlessness is one of your most endearing traits, along with your attitude of knowing all and being infallible. But you are a funny guy. Not only do you proclaim it to be so but you're never wrong.

I have thought that his antics bordered on sheer foolishness a long time ago. It is a shame really. He was a talented guy who worked hard until he fell in love with microphones. Fools gold in sports.

But, as we say in my business: "sometimes wrong, never in doubt".
