I watched a lot of Mizzou games and Kevin Rutland was a pretty good DB. Hes got good size (About 6ft) and was a pretty solid tackler.

Beat cancer to start in 2010. Herzlich needs more time to regain his explosiveness and speed, but he’s a smart, tough, physical player who shares many qualities with Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel.

 

3. Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame

A three-year starter with experience in both a 3-4 and 4-3 defense, Williams has great character and work ethic. He is a much better run defender than pass rusher at this stage.

 

4. Owen Spencer, WR, North Carolina State

 

Has great size (6-2, 192 pounds) and length. Good speed (4.55), but not very strong in his run after the catch or tough as a blocker. Does a good job of separating from press. Was a three-year starter for the Wolfpack.

 

5. Derrick Locke, RB, Kentucky

An explosive, big-play threat that fell because of his diminutive stature (5-8 ¼, 187 pounds). Injury-prone. Does have excellent open-field ability.

 

6. Joe Lefeged, S, Rutgers

 

Lack of production against the run kept him from getting drafted, but he has the speed, acceleration and quickness to become a viable NFL safety and special-teams player. Has the burst needed to close effectively.

 

7. Jeff Maehl, WR, Oregon

Shined in the BCS title game by showing decent speed and toughness. He consistently goes across the middle and takes hits while holding onto the ball. Needs to add some bulk to continue that at the next level.

 

8. Jamar Newsome, WR, Central Florida

Very quick and athletic receiver with good hands. Does not have premier playing speed and lacks size (6-0, 200 pounds). However, showed on film he has what it takes to make it as a slot receiver and returner in the NFL.

 

9. Terrence Toliver, WR, LSU

Great combination of size (6-4, 211 pounds), speed and strength. Struggles with consistency at times and can disappear on film. When engaged, he can dominate his position, especially showing a solid ability to run after the catch. Needs to improve his route running to help create separation.

 

10. Damien Berry, RB, Miami (Fla.)

A first-year starter in 2010 after a brief stint at safety. Highly productive special-teams player. More of a move-the-chains type of back.

 

11. Kris O’Dowd, C, USC

A potential first-round pick last year, but fell this year because he lacks athleticism. What he has is toughness and competitiveness.

 

12. Jimmy Young, WR, TCU

Lacks the explosiveness of TCU teammate Jeremy Kerley, but is a bigger receiver with better strength and deceptive playing speed. Good hands and is a very strong runner after the catch.

 

13. Ryan Bartholomew, C, Syracuse

Very muscular and powerful center who is able to lock and control defensive tackles despite being less than 6-foot-1. Highly productive college player.

 

14. Justin Boren, G, Ohio State

Decent size (6-2, 309 pounds) with strength and toughness. He is not really flexible and struggles with his balance. Should be a backup at all three interior offensive line positions.

 

15. Jon Cornell, MLB, Mississippi

A smart, instinctive linebacker who is constantly around the ball making tackles against the run. Solid in small-area pass coverage, but lacks speed.

 

16. Anthony Elzy, RB, North Carolina

Had three straight 100-yard games before getting hurt. A quick and athletic back with excellent hands and open-field running ability. Potentially a good third-down back.

 

17. Zac Etheridge, DB, Auburn

A neck issue kept Etheridge from going in this year’s draft. He can be an immediate contributor on coverage teams. Has enough skills to eventually crack a starting lineup in the right situation.

19. Alex Linnenkohl, C, Oregon State

A three-year starter for the Beavers. He has a square build with shorter arms for the position. Although he has very good initial quickness, he is only a marginal athlete with little upside. Smart and savvy.

A solid prospect with the measurables to be a prototypical defensive end. Gives maxium effort on every snap and could add depth for any 4-3 defense.

DeAndre Brown is an interesting story. That guy was awesome as a freshman. Looked like a potential future first rounder and another Marques Colston at the very least. Running under a deep ball which would have been an easy TD and his lower leg just snaps in half. Really felt bad for the guy. Never made it all the way back and apparently has a poor attitude. Big guy with a lot of receiving ability.

Janoris Jenkins, DB out of UF is the most valuable UDFA there is. He was booted form the team at UF a mere week or so by a new coach looking to make a stand. He was booted for drugs, but it was just weed. It was like his second weed violation and then he got in a little fight 2 entire years ago. Yeah he's no saint, but that's why he's available and he didn't kill anyone or have a cocaine problem (like a certain QB people wanted to draft). The kid was the second CB to start day one as a freshman in school history. He was a freshman all-american. He WAS without a doubt the best player on UF's defense until he was booted, once again by a new coach who looked to crack the whip and establish discipline. Plain and simple if Urban were still at UF he would not have been kicked off (since it wasn't that serious and he was one of Urban's guys), he would be the best player on the D next season, and he would have been a 1st round pick in next years draft (2 at the latest). Keep in mind I'm saying he was poised to be that next year, not that he would have been this year. He needed another year to blow up but he would have been up there. Same player. Worth bringing in.

Locke could be am interesting change of pace back. Since we fattened up on dbs there's really no room to give any of the uda's a chance. Herzlich would be amazing of course, reminds me of Bryce Paup. But even if he ever gets back to playing strength I bet it takes at least 2 years.

A shoulder injury which he has not fully recovered from has limited his ability since injury, if he ever gets back to 2009 form ... well just check out the highlights. If he can' t play QB he has the size to play WR or TE too.

Hill's twitter is insane and he's sort of overrated as a player but Janoris is worth a mid round.

Mark Herzlich was a BEAST before getting cancer and was a sure first round pick. He is now cancer free, give him a year to build his body back up and get back into football shape and you have yourself a great football player.

 

Absolutely. I can't believe no one drafted him. ACC Defensive player of the year before cancer, not to mention a stand-up guy and someone we could all root for. I was hoping we'd take him 4th round and can't believe we passed him on the 5th, 6th, and 7th too. Crazy.

I imagine he didn't get drafted because he was dismissed from the team in September. He did not play as a senior and there are serious concerns about his character. He can't block. Other than that...

 

Saunders is actually a really interesting story...He was suspended for lying twice to the NCAA about two trips he took with his best friend, no other than UNC DT Marvin Austin who was at the center of all the suspensions at North Carolina...Saunders did tell the whole truth the third time around and claims he did nothing wrong, that he paid for both trips himself, but was lying to the NCAA to protect his friends...He did not try to make excuses...But...

 

I love this quote I got from The NFLDRAFTSCOUT.com..."I panicked." Saunders said at the Combine. "There's no excuse for lying. I wasn't truthful and forthcoming. I did hold back on information in the first two interviews. The third time I laid everything out on the table. It felt like they were investigating a murder. It was in the middle of the summer, they put me in a hot room at the Carolina Inn and stuck two tape recorders in front of me for two hours."

 

Anyway, Saunders also broke a bone in his foot and was unable to run at the Combine...Still injured he gutted it out and ran a 4.93 at the SC Pro Day...I'm sure the combination of off-the-field stuff and the injury led to him not being Drafted...Someone will give him a chance...He's got a lot of upside and just based on the quotes I read seems to be a Kid that understands he did wrong...Who knows..he was once considered a big time TE Prospect...
