Pilsner Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 It seems that this draft may have been driven by Gailey's and the other Bills' coaches experience coaching during the Senior Bowl. e.g., they draft two LB's from the South team. They drafted Searcy who played for the North--not sure if he made an impression during the game? I'd be curious to know if this was a big driver in draft decisions this year. If it was, I wonder if that's good or bad? It's always a good thing when you get a week to coach and evaluate players. So, yes it made a big difference. This was the only year Gailey could get such close quarters evaluations. Next season the Bills should improve and Gailey will be out of the running to coach in the senior bowl. I think it will be hard for Nix and co. to match this years haul next year. We just won't have the close evaluation that Gailey and staff had this time around. But if we get close, then I'll be happy.

This comes in handy in the later rounds where the stratification between players' talent is harder to decipher. Having the opportunity to work with some of these guys, getting to know them personally (from a coaches viewpoint) for am ENTIRE week can make all the difference in the world! Long Rule CHIX! Sisyphean Bills Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Buddy Nix scouted and coached in the Southeast. Chan Gailey's last head coaching gig was in the ACC, where he and some of the Bills assistants recruited.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Nix and Gailey know where the talent is... Southern home grown!!! Ya'll git some cornbread ta cookin' in Buffalo now!!!! Next time I make it back to my hometown, will it be headin' south, or truly southern? Will we now have "southern style B'lo Wings?" (You're headin' south when you start to see grits on the menu. You're in the south when they just bring 'em)

If it was, I wonder if that's good or bad? I would say "it is what it is". It's good in that hopefully it helped the Bills acquire some quality high-intensity players. It's bad in that unless the Bills suck worse next year (Avert!) they need to depend upon their scouts. And this year's draft seems to show coaching the Senior bowl >>> scouts. Surely there had to be ONE player worth drafting from the snowy north (you know, the same climate the Bills play in)?
