McBeane Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 And I love how everyone that hates Donte will be those that scold this pick, even though this pick means their favorite whipping post is gone.
Acantha Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 They are drafting DB's and safety's because it looks like they will not be resigning the free agents they have in these positions. Makes total sense to me. They're not re-signing the prior regimes idea of good DB's. They're getting guys they think fit what they want. Now, if they don't re-sign these new guys, it's a bigger deal. That said, I still would have rather gone another way.
gumby Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I like it. It addresses an area of need as he'll most likely be a safety.
NaPolian8693 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Regarding pass rushers, the it's still uncertain what the Bills have with Merriman/Carrington/Moats. As much as I hate to say it, there is probably a good chance they let Maybin back on the team for one final go round. This pick makes sense, and the Bills have drafted well so far. I want Demarcus Love next or an OT tackle prospect that might slide, such as Hairston.
fitzisourman Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 with 25 DB's on the roster already where do these guys fit? what will our line-up on defense look like?
uticaclub Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 he has the size and speed to cover TE's. something no one of our team could do last year.
Rockinon Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 The draft tracker on nfl.com does not give him any props at all. Anybody have any constructive news on this guy? Well he is another big strong DB. And he has return skills too. The brass is dead serious about improving the defense quickly.
PromoTheRobot Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Also worked with him in mobile Right. Another kid Chan coached in the Senior Bowl. PTR
Heitz Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Lot of info in this article: http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2011/4/15/2112911/dallas-cowboys-draft-prospects-danorris-searcy
LGB Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 People don't realize that Searcy is going to be a run-stuffing SS with his 230 lb frame. I think its a great pick and means the end of the road in Buffalo for Donte. Is not a stout run defender despite his size (5' 10" ?).
Kevin Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 with 25 DB's on the roster already where do these guys fit? what will our line-up on defense look like? Is the ledge getting crowded? Jump...
bananathumb Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Rather pick a SS in the fourth with Nix than one in the first with Levy! (We know how that turned out). Glad to see Whitner is no longer needed.
Ghost of Rob Johnson Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Sounds like he is going to be a SS in the NFL. Dont think it's any indication on Whitner, can't see the plan being for a 4th round pick to start in the NFL day 1. Edited April 30, 2011 by Ghost of Rob Johnson
DrDawkinstein Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 SKYYYYYYYY FAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGGG!!!! Good Job, Buddy. Rebuilding the Defense. STACK THE D!!
BillsVet Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 The dude looks like a killer but I really wanted a TE or OL prospect. Granted, no one really expects their fourth round pick to start right away, but I actually think Stocker could have started and have been productive immediately (if only because we suck at TE). There were numerous players I would have liked before another DB (who will likely be a safety, and we need one, at least as a back-up). If there was any doubt about Whitner, the door just slammed shut. Guess that's the good news from this pick.
NaPolian8693 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 It's a good pick. Donte is on the way out. This guy is the #2 Strong Safety prospect in the draft. The Bills are having a good solid draft for the first time in a long time.
Cornerville Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Love it! Stack the secondary! Wow, I did not know Dick Jauron signed up for twobills
Captain Caveman Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 From NFL.com Searcy is an effective safety in coverage, but he is not aggressive enough in run support to contribute at the next level. He has enough range to be a center fielder and shows the ability make plays when the ball is in the air. He also has experience as a nickel back over the slot, but he lacks the hip fluidity to stick with NFL receivers in man coverage. He will never be a factor in run support as he shies away from contact and struggles to shed blocks. Searcy can contribute as a punt returner and may sneak into the later rounds. Hopefully this is way off, otherwise not sure how he will work as a SS.
