OT Rap is not Music!!

First of all, I cant believe you took the time to write that. I am stunned.

Second of all, Tupac was a huge "non-discriminatory" activist. So to say "and about his hate for the crackers" is just stupid and shows you know nothing off what you speak.

Man, you're slow. The song is written for, and about, YOU!

you have a HATRED of black music that stems from an underlying fear and now you want to cry about a double-standard...

Yes, you are a real intellectual giant.

Somebody hates rap music, because of its technical (or lack of) merits, and Johnie Freudweenie has determined that it stems from racism and a fear of the unknown.

And of course, somebody can say they hate country music and pick it apart, but that is NEVER because of the white folks singing it....

If your spelling paints a picture of you being a dumbass, then certainly that issue alone short circuits your entire arguement. If you cannot express yourself effectively with the written word, then you tend to look like ......a friggin' idiot!

my spelling is damn near perfect everytime i just dont use apostrophes or capitalize, it saves time and i dont really see the point. i type how i talk for the most part. to me a message board is more like a face to face conversation and less of a essay exam like alot of people, apparently you, make it out to be. whats the big deal if somebody makes a spelling mistake anyway? unless they spell like a monkey we all know exactly what they mean. theres no need to cut someone off at the knees to make yourself seem taller.

I'm a black musician and I hate rap music as we know it today because of it's lack of techincal and cultural merit. I consider it more of an attack on black musical culture than an extenstion of the culture. Rap is crap.

I remember my parents thinking that "folk" and/or "Beatles" music would ruin me because it was people singing about "life" as they saw it at the time.

Does today's rap music have people singing about "life" as they see it?

well thats the main idea although commercial rap for the most part has departed from that. A good conscious hip hop MC definately raps about sh-- they think is !@#$ed up.

Holy crap. You are WAY stupider than I thought you originally were.

Wow, the zingers are just flying out of your head.

It must be all that educational programing that MTV music news puts out.

I guess they make you feel it socially acceptable to degrade the suburbs, and the white people that live there.

Just curious, why is it that you see the world in only terms of Black and White?

You might not be knowledgeable enough yet to know, but they are a whole bunch of other races living here the good old U.S.

And there are millions of people who's heritage is combination of different backgrounds.

And that you might be talking to one.

But I am sure it is easier for you to understand the world in simpler terms.

Somebody doesn't like rap music, finds insulting on many levels,

and your MTV-filled head shouts out "White man in the suburbs being racist"

How lame.

And another thing, the suburbs of Buffalo are one of the best places to grow up in,

and of the best places to raise a family in the country.

And most of the people that live there have the means to do so because of hard work and dedication to their family.

They are not awarded a privilege at birth that gives them the ability to having everything they want, and the expense of the misfortunate folks in the city.

Nope, it is called hard work. And not being a f**k up.

It means actually being there to take care of your kids.

And maybe they want to raise their kids in place were it is ok to ride their bikes outside,

without having to worry about them.

So next time you spout your mouth off about the "white man living in the suburbs with his two kids making you sick",

wait a minute and think for second.

Who really is the person who is racist and makes snap judgments based on stereotypes?

What are you talking about? You quoted me calling you STUPID and somehow you turned that into a "black/white" arguement.

You think growing up in suburb Buffalo is a good place? Are you out of your !@#$ing mind? There are cities in Mississippi that have higher wages than Buffalo. Buffalo is crap.

Faulty logic. Disco lasted how long? A year? Two? Rap music is 20+ years and going strong.

IMO, there are some really good rappers out there who even the old people on this board might like. Kanye West, Outkast, and Naz are a few mainstream ones that come to mind. The current problem with rap, however, (like rock music as well) is that MTV is showcasing its genre with some of the worst crap I've ever heard (Ja Rule, 50 Cent, yes even the "great" Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, so many more), thus only strengthening its negative stereotype to the already skeptical masses.

Rap may have been around for 20 years, but I don't think it became main stream until the mid 90's. Granted there were a few breakout artists before then. Biz Markie, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Digital Underground, Sirmixalot and Will Smith all come to mind.

I think rap is due for a collapse. Music goes in cycles, and it's time for a Guns n Roses or a Nirvana type of revolution. I agree that MTV plays nothing but crap. Snoop Dogg has gone way down hill since "Deep Cover".

Hmm, let's see...4/5 of the members of Dream Theater were scholarship winners to the Berkley School of Music, the keyboardist went the Julliard Music academy at the ripe old age of 11...

Yes! Coming up with a rap on your feet is comparable.

And get things straight, most of it is NOT coherent, at least not in Rap music today. In the early days they tried to synchronize the phrases, and actually did dance moves. Now they just shout over each other, and shrug their shoulders, while looking pissed off.

dude rap is a form of art just like other forms of art

now if you talk all they atalk about is shouting at each other and sh--, you're just stereotyping, have u ever listened to wu tang ? whatever they sing about is their choice but its nice to listen to and thats it

i like every form of music if its done properly

i can listen to classic jazz or whatever as long as i know the musician put his heart into it

why is this still here?

Someone is so narrow minded that because they don't like a type of music, they claim it "isn't" music, and we get 10 pages?

Guess what?

Romantic comedies arn't movies...

oh wait, yes they are, i just don't like them.

Agreed.

Now you can read these lyrics and say its mindless and dribble and stevestojan and ripoff you're a moron

wu tang 4 life

After laughter, comes tears

Verse One: The RZA

Yo check yo yo, check the script

Me and the gods get it ripped

Blunts in the dip, forty dogs in my lip

Had a box, 'Boom Boom' the bass will blast

We was laughing, at all the girls that passed

Conversation, brothers had begin to discuss

(Hey yo, Ra, remember that kid ya bust?)

Aw yeah, he ran, but he didn't get far

Cause I dropped him, heh heh heh heh heh HA

Not knowin, exactly what lied ahead

My little brother, my mother sent him out for bread

Get the Wonder, it's a hot day in the summer

Didn't expect, to come across, a crazy gunner

"Hey Shorty, check it for the bag and the dough"

But he was brave, looked him in the eye, and said "No!!"

Money splattered him, BOW! then he snatched the bag

In his pockets, then he jetted up the Ave.

Girls screamin, the noise up and down the block

(Hey, Rakeem!) What? (Your little brother got shot!)

I ran frantically, then I dropped down to his feet

I saw the blood, all over, the hot concrete

I picked him up, then I held him by his head

His eyes shut, that's when I knew he was...

Aw man! How do I say goodbye?

It's alway the good ones who have to die

Memories in the corner of my mind

Flashbacks, I was laughin all the time

I taught him, all about the bees and birds

But I wish I had a chance to sing these three words

Chorus

Verse Two: Ghostface Killer

Me and my man, my ace big Moe from the shelter

Bout to hit the skins, from this girl named Thelma

Now Thelma had a rep, that was higher than her neck

Every girl from Shaolin dissed her respect

We was stimmy, you know how it is when you're blitzed

Three o'clock in the morning, something gots to give

Moe said he'll go first, I said I'll take next

Here, take this raincoat, and practice safe sex

He seemed to ignore, I said be for real

She's not even worth it, to go raw deal

A man's gonna do what a man's gonna do

He got butt-naked and stuck the power U

Twenty minutes went by, my man went out, without a doubt

I'm not pumpin' up, I am, airin out

Hey yo, he came out laughing with glory

I'm surprised, he's still livin', to tell his story

But he carried on, with the same old stuff

with Stephanie, like a whammy, he pressed his luck

Both tried to be down with O.P.P.

Ain't nuttin' wrong but he got caught with the H.I.V. now

No life to live, doc says two more years

So after the laughter, I guess comes the tears

Hey, I said I didn't care for rap. I was instantly called a racist POS. What an agenda.

Sorry, I'm old. I like music to sound like music.

Sue me.

165594[/snapback]

Yes. But who are YOU to say that rap doesnt sound like music. Its all a matter of opinion. Some rap fans could say the Beatles doesnt sound like music. Does that make it true??????
