Spun Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 this is true and to my knowledge Buffalo is the only city that regularly sings both anthems. It's a respect thing That is correct. Back in the day, not only were their many Canadian fans coming to see hockey in Buffalo (AHL Bisons and Sabres) but it was predominately Canadians playing (even more so than today). It is very cool to hear both anthems. Edmonton has historically done a very classy job of enthusiastically singing both anthems at their games involving U.S. teams. (Not so in Montreal!).
Just Jack Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I once saw that the Sabres had a pretty significant season ticket holder base in southern Ontario (%30 at one time), if that still holds true it may be to honor those fans as well. I used to go to the Dirt track races with a buddy of mine years ago here around Syracuse, and they all did both anthems since many drivers and fans are from Canada.
