Wow, that's big news; those are billion dollar businesses.

Of course, you'd think the FBI could do stuff like -- oh I dunno -- go after Mexican drug gangs operating in US cities or rooting out billions in Medicare fraud that occurs annually, rather than hassling businesses that the general public clearly approves of and wants in existance.

Yeah, most of us who have been playing online a while figured this would happen sooner or later...this is such bull. Find a way to regulate it and tax it....don't just shut everything down and waste a potential source of revenue. Stupid.

I don't play as much as I used to, but I love logging on and sitting across from people all around the world. I know there are also quite a few people who actually make a lot of money playing online. I don't have the patience or discipline to reach that level of success, and I almost always play for smaller stakes, but in the long run I've come out ahead.

This really sucks...the gov't really needs to learn to focus on things that are actually important.

Washington DC recently approved the idea of operating their own online casino. Think this shutdown is a coincidence? Yeah, right.

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be enforced nor objectively interpreted—and you create a nation of law-breakers—and then you cash in on guilt.

The Gov't wouldn't have a problem with online gambling if they had a way to make money off it.

Why should a modern State grant/protect a right or liberty without a revenue stream to justify their benevolence?

Glad I withdrew most of my $ before a couple local Brick&Mortor rooms opened up recently (the games are soooo much softer than online). But yah, this is an absolute disgrace. Pathetic that it is legal to play in just about any country in the world except for "the land of the free". Meanwhile lets continue to tax the **** out of lotteries, which are largely purchased by the poor who can't afford to throw $ away. Such hypocritical moral highground garbage.
