bbb
I have Avast and it's going crazy - saying there is malware or a trojan horse on most every site that I'm going to. I can't get to facebook, stubhub (which I know has some sort of facebook feed going on)and a few others.........On most of the rest of them, it pops up saying threat has been detected, but am able to get on. This site is not giving me any problem - one of the few. It all started about 45 minutes ago. Should I turn my avast off or is something big going on right now? WVUFootball29
Sounds like you have something hijacking your browser. Shut down, restart holding f8 for safe mode, and run a full scan.
DrDawkinstein
Sounds like you have something hijacking your browser. Shut down, restart holding f8 for safe mode, and run a full scan. Bingo. Most likely what is happening, bbb, is that there is already a Trojan Horse that has infected your PC. When you try to browse to a page, the TH tries to redirect you to a different site. At that point, Avast jumps in and warns you, and blocks the TH. Thus making it seem like it's the web pages that are doing it, when really the culprit is on your PC. If you turned off Avast and tried browsing, I'd bet you'd get re-directed to "about:blank" or something like that whenever you tried to hit the net. Just a guess though. The only thing is that I have turned off avast and it's letting me go exactly where I need to go.........Could it still be what you think?

The only thing is that I have turned off avast and it's letting me go exactly where I need to go.........Could it still be what you think? yes, but based on the limited info, anything is possible. could be that the virus isnt redirecting you as much as doing some contacting of its own in the background. could be something in your browser itself. could be that Avast has gone bonkers. Are there any updates available for Avast? Does Avast tell you the name and/or location of the TH when it pops up it's warning?

Are there any updates available for Avast? Does Avast tell you the name and/or location of the TH when it pops up it's warning? I think Avast went bonkers and now has got it's crap together. When I rebooted earlier, it came up with an error that it couldn't update the virus definitions. It auto does that a few times a day and comes up with this loud voice something like "Virus software has been updated!" Well, when I just rebooted again, the big voice came on and said updated, no error this time. And, now I'm able to get everywhere I need to go. (Also, the avast website wasn't coming up earlier, for myself or my friend who was trying to get their from his computer at his work). So, with all that, do you think it was just some avast glitch and I don't have anything to worry about now? We're having the same issues here at work today. Do you computers use Avast? Ah, then it was most likely Avast just didnt start up correctly. Nothing to worry about. Either that, or the virus figured out how to kill Avast during the reboot

DrDawkinstein
Our IT guys just called and said Avast fixed itself. Ah, then I wonder if their servers that provide the definitions were down for a bit, screwing it up for everyone. That would make sense if you both experienced it. When that thing goes off and the volume is way up, it can scare the bejeezus out of ya! I had the same thing earlier. Rebooted and then there was no problem.
