The Poojer
My son got the red ring of death the other night on his 4 year old(?) 360. Is it best to buy a new one or have xbox fix this one, I believe the fix is 100 bucks vs 200 for new. What about the saved info on the original console, does xbox live store that so he doesn't lose anything? Thanks in advance
/dev/null
I'd just buy a new one If you have it repaired you won't lose anything saved on the console. You're supposed to remove the hard drive before shipping.
Thisistheyear
Buy the new one. You're basically getting a refurbished model otherwise. I sent mine in and eventually got the rrod again. The new ones are thinner, a lot less noisy and, as far as I know, not susceptible to the red ring of death. Well worth the extra hundred bucks. The Poojer
but back to my second part of the question...what about all the saved games etc...not that that is a huge consideration, do all his games start from scratch with a new system? Fezmid
cool...thanks! If you haven't bought the replacement, Amazon has this for $200, and you receive a $50 credit: http://slickdeals.ne...0-amazon-credit I think you can just plug your current hard drive into this one - but I'm not 100% sure with the new ones... (I know you could do that before).

Nervous Guy
cool...thanks! added benefit...the new one will not sound like a jet engine...our new one is barely audible, while the old one was deafening!
Fixxxer
Don't waste your money and watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo2dl2vlwis I believe I have the useless set of hands for everything manual but even I could do this. It's very easy, believe me. I got tired of getting the RROD and did some research and found this easy fix, you won't regret it. The console just overheat if it's on for a long period of time, it's just needs cleaning.
