The biggest reason was unfavorable media coverage, right down to a "Thursday Night" surprise about the "US media's" greatest ever NON-scandal, the "Iran-Contra," and even as the accuser had given five digits in campaign contributions to the Dems, and his story was complete BS, the "US media" led with the story Thursday night, and Mr. Larry King was very very petty, obnoxious, disrespectful, and (as we know now) lobbing completely false accusations at Bush 41 over and over for the whole program. That's clearly #1. The other was the economy, and again the media was very unfair, as was Mr. Alan Greenspan, who very much supported Bill Clinton's promise to "finish the (ISraeli, not our) job" by invading and occupying Iraq without UN allies or a UN mandate... everything else like taxes, Clarence Thomas etc paled in comparison to those two, that the "US media" was ferociously for Bill Clinton to by far the most biased degree ever seen in a US Presidential election, and the US was just coming out of a recession thanks to Bush 41's 20+ vetoes of big spending bills from a Dem Congress.
